Hello i am soon to start Advanced Higher Maths at home using Scholar programme. I have found a good book online, K.A. Stroud Engineering Mathematics 6th Edition.

It looks like it may be helpful but at more than £30 i want to be sure it will be worth the money - does anyone use this book at all in the course of their studies?

I am a newbee posting so forgive me if i have done anything wrong here with headings, tags etc.
Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Okay admission: I've never used Stroud's Engineering Mathematics but:
  • I know two people who have; one did manage to learn the adv higher maths course using it, and another guy in my uni course (who is not strong at maths) uses it frequently and he has managed to reach honours year, and both have told me it is very good.
  • I, myself, do use Stroud's Advanced Engineering Maths and I've found that topics are well explained with example problems solved, and contains plenty of practice questions, I assume the regular eng maths would be similar.
An alternative you could try is to just use scholar and you may also want to check out MIT's opencourseware you can find lectures on most of the algebra and calculus in adv higher, and then if you find that is not enough go for stroud. I check this forum fairly frequently so if you have any problems post them here :D
