What essays did you do and what did you do them on?

Also what did you think of the ideas of the passages and how do you think the close reading went?

At the moment - I'm personally not too optimistic...

I did question number 2 - about a key scene - for "The Crucible" and I did question number 8 - about a characters lack of harmony with society - for "Guests of the Nation".

Not feeling cofident in the slightest...

I did question no 1 on sacrifice for romeo and juliet and no 8 for my short story.

Not confident either, but i'm hoping for at least a B.

I did number 8 for my novel and 14 for the poem.
I though the passages were good, and there weren't too many evaluative questions biggrin.gif
I had to twist number 8 a lot though; there were 3 really relevant questions for Othello but I hadn't got a clue where to start them, so I stuck with what I did know

owel looks like that new topic i posted was pointless tongue.gif

"how did everybody find it?

i thought the essay questions were not bad, did the question about an entertaining scene - Friar's soliloquay (romen and juliet)
and a literal and metaphorical journey : Sparrow by Norman Mac Caig

don't have a clue how i did on the close reading... pain in the ass mostly, though i never really know how i do in close readings.. i thought, didnt properly finish the last question, but i don't think anyone really got that finished. only 3 people i've spoken to got the whole thing finished. as for me, "Two minutes to go" and i was only 1/4 through my already scrappy answer...owel hopefully i've passed cos i really don't want to resit it again next year sad.gif "

Could anyone confirm me what the evaluative question on both question was? I've did it completely different from someone else and think I might have mis-read it. :|

Allan, I suggest that you don't discuss the answer, if anything it will only bring you depression to be honest.

Everything always seems worst after the exam. I'm not sure myself I've read most of the questions correctly.

13. Which of the 2 writers do you think presents the more persuasive argument in favour of public libraries?
Justify your choice by referrring to the ideas and style of both passages

And no, I wouldn't advise discussing it either. The chances are that you were right smile.gif

Dammit mad.gif sad.gif
I've completely answered that one wrong... I guess the stress and nerves and stuff must have gotten to me, especially since I had very little time left to answer it.

Maybe I'll still pick up a couple of marks... but it was for 5 so could make the difference of my grade. Really mad atm. sad.gif

I spent too much time on passage 1 and had to rush answering the second. I thought last years reading was easier.

For the writing, The poetry questions were horrible, i studied 3 poems and none were suitable. Luckily i still had hamlet and gatsby.

Hi guys! hope you all done well- im sure you all have! Not too sure about me though! Guess I will have to wait til august to find out!

The close reading was ok, although it's definitely not my strong point, it was't one of the hardest ones we have had though, our prelim was harder.

As for the critical essays, I answered question 11 on Shooting an Elephant and question 13 on the poems Visiting Hour and Waiting Room. I struggled to remember my quotes for Shooting an Elephant though and my essay for that was much shorter than the poetry one!

Allan, try not to worry about it! The time you used on say, two other 2 mark questions, you've probably guaranteed yourself four marks anyway, so wherever you used the time it should have been worth it. If that makes sense

Close reading went ok i think. Weirdest subject for a close reading ever though lol

For the writing i did no 4 with Romeo And Juliet(Significant change in the relationship) and no 13 using Dulce et Decorum Est and Visiting Hour(Theme Of Despair)

I hope so. And I'll maybe pick up a couple of marks for it anyway. It really is just under the whole stress of the situation lol. That's it over with now anyway and theres nothing I can do to change it, so I may as well try and forget about it and just wait for the results.

yeah Allan don't worry! At least you tackled it and you may gain some marks from what you said in your answer if its relevant! Did you try Petes srategy in the close reading? I did and it was really effective as it helped me finish the paper in time, thank the lord! Can't wait til August to find out how we have all done! The anticipation is unreal and thats only after the first exam!

Hey all

Thought the close reading was okayish spent far too much time on passage 1 - was kinda confused about the whole attitude towards the "MTV generation" just scrabbled an answer down and was left with 25 mins on passage 2 and the q's on both passages - luckily there were loads of (U) questions in passage 2 and managed to write an answer for the last one - didnt fully finish it tho.

For the essays I picked no 10 for my non-fiction was so worried I was the only one from my class doing that question and thinking I was doing it totally wrong but everyone seems to have done that so feeling a bit better.
Did q3 for Death of a Salesman - but I think my essays were probably to short.

Hope you all did well - personally I have no idea what I will be getting come august!

Yeh I did use it - I usually do though so I just stuck to my guns! tongue.gif It does help and lets me finish it in the time as your not constantly trying to understand what the passage is about and stuff - and you gain back time any way.

At least the passage wasn't really boring or anything anyway! tongue.gif

I know... 4 more to go - Maths on tuesday! (I'll see you all in the maths forum, eh?wink.gif haha)

I thought the close reading was very queer, too many Understanding/Imagery questions, very few sentence structure

Essays; Did question four on relationships, went really really crap.

Did question 15 on a journey, did Kubla Khan and wrote about Coleridge's metaphysical journey through hedonistic debauchery.

I don't really know how I did. I did the last question wrong (wrong focus) but I should get a couple of marks.

Essays on Romeo and Juliet's Act 3 Scene 1 being shocking and the passionate disagreement against capital punishment on "A Hanging" were total signed, sealed, delivered though.

Away to get the wheelbarrow out for a long deserved bonfire!
