Your comment on people who "hardly looked at a book" is fair. It's incredibly frustrating when you've sat for hour and hours studying for an exam whereas someone looks at their notes the class before their test.surprise surprise they get an A and you get a C. That used to really p*ss me off last year

Cows are magnificent,
Cows I call them "moos",
And sometimes silly folk,
They call my moos "coos".

I think I got 73% for my prelim, which is JUST an A so I'm fine with my B.
There's a girl I know who hardly ever went to school and yet tells me she got an A for her English which is sickening!

English is an unfair exam. Your result depends on who marks it! As much as the SQA claim 'consistency', it definitily isn't.

It's the way they mark the paper. They check the essays to see if they PASS, ie. gain a C. From there they go on to see if the paper is worthy of an A. B grades are awarded where it sort of falls between, but the markers are probably more likely to give A or C since it's more difficult to judge if it's an in-between award or not.
I know two people that got a B.
I got an A, after getting a C in the prelim. I wasn't expecting it at all, since I never thought I was any good at English. I probably fall into the "don't read books" category, although I did work really hard for all my exams, and was extremely psyched before my English exam. I never believed I'd get an A though - I just wanted to pass...
I do feel for people that didn't get their expected grades. I know a few like that - some of whom are doing advanced higher. They did well all through the year and didn't gain the grade they probably deserved.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years the Standard Grades are scrapped.

I read somewhere that Glasgow City Council were starting this year to phase standard grades out. But I can't remember what they were replacing it with exactly

As for my English results I got a Higher C. Not bad considering I failed the prelim in January. I just find it really difficult to explain things in writing (or at least thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it

So I am even more chuffed!
I am much more confident and knowledgable (if thats how u spell it!!) when it comes to Science subjects tho
I had a girl in my class...predicted an A, got A in prelim and only got a lower B in her exam (eg 60-64%)
