I had the (dis)pleasure of sitting business managment and philosophy on the same day so I'm less confident about my performance compared with how I did in the prelim (sat philosophy 2nd)

I did the Descarte, Existance of God and Voluntary Eutanasia questions from section A,B and C.

hey, i just started higher philosophy - i take it it gets more difficult after the month of june, in which we've sat around making mind maps and making our own slippery slope arguments

Do you know if there's a set reading list for higher philosophy? Or are you just taught from a textbook?

The SQA don't set a reading list. If you're doing Plato you're supposed to read The Republic. If you're doing Descartes you'll read some of his Meditations. Apart from that I think I just used the text book, the internet and did lots of practice essays.

I didn't know they did Descartes in higher! We did him in Philosophy 1K at uni. I hated having to read Meditations. The writing style is so...17th century!

Here's a Descartes joke for you then:

On a friday night out, Descartes walks in to a bar. He has an inkling for a glass of red wine as opposed to his usual pint of ale. As he approaches the bar, the barman asks, "Will it be your usual pint of ale then, Rene?". "I think not", says Descartes and ceases to exist.

I'm sure there are more where that came from too. =P

Star: I used http://forums.philosophyforums.com/ a bit.

Erm: I am sure there are plenty more similar jokes of such a high calibre as that one!

Well, on a serious note, is philosophy of the mind in the higher? We looked at Cartesian dualism and the possibility of zombies and mutants when we did it last semester.

It was when I did it, although the course changed this year. Now it seems there are four topics, all of which are mandatory: http://www.sqa.org.uk/files_ccc/NQPhilosop...rrangements.pdf
