That would possibly explain the school being female cos most of the maths teachers are!

Yup before last year they were all female! There is only one male maths teacher but I don't think he does higher or anything like that! I could be wrong though! smile.gif

yeah, i think that Mr. E.B does Int 1. We have another new maths teacher though - a male! Think he is getting the Int 2 class this year though, most of our Maths teachers were female last year - equal this year....i think!! ermm.gif

Our school has a 50/50 split between men and women maths teachers, I think.

Anyway, I'm doing:

H Maths
H English
H Mod Stud
H Chem
H Physics
H Music (unit)

Hi, Out of the subjects you are planning to take, I do Higher French and Higher Modern Studies. These both happen to be my 2 fav subjects especially Modern Studies. The course is really interesting and not hard at all, all you need to do is learn your stuff and you'll do well. The only bad thing is the decision making exercise. It's easy enough once you've tried a few but they are incredibly boring! Apart from that Modern studies is brill! As for French, well its fab too! i don't know if you know much about the course or nor but in the exam you do directed writing, writing, reading and listening (as well as a spaeking in school in about Feb/March). Everything is okay except the 10 mark translation in the reading can vary from being easy to evil and the listening varies like this too!

Hope all this helps! biggrin.gif

I didn't take any of those subjects this year but I did int2 maths in 4rth year and found it ok.
One of my friends took higher rmps and she loves it. And the people who took french have complained about getting tons of homework but that might just be the teacher.

Generally the French listening varies...some past papers are really easy while others are sometimes quite difficult. I think its all down to how much vocab etc you know on each topic etc. I would say the listening isn't that much harder at higher compared to standard grade, the only bad thing is you can only hear the tape twice instead of 3 times like at standard grade but you soon get used to it after plenty of practice and its fine.

You said you didn't like the USA. Unfortunately this is part of the syllabus, although your school may do a different topic..I doubt they would though if they do USA at standard grade. I wasn't that keen on USA at standard grade and it's my least favourite this year. The good thing is it's basically all the same from standard grade but in a bit more detail. The Modern Studies syllabus is changing slightly next year and my teacher said that from next year the USA topic will also involve more about the constitution/government etc. We did this at sg but not at higher I thought this was the best bit about USA in SG so i wish I was you and could study Modern Studies next year so I could do more about the govt!

I would say there is a lot of revision for Modern Studies but if you like it you'll find that when it comes to this time of year everything is easy to learn because you have paid attention in class (unlike some other subjects! tongue.gif ) during the year so although the course content is very large it still stays in the old brain!

Well I'm just sitting Higher this year so not done the exams yet. unsure.gif but in my prelims I got an A for both of these subjects. I got a high A in Modern Studies and a low A in French. Oh and I'm doing Advanced Higher French and Modern Studies next year.

Hope this helps! Would be happy to answer any other questions! smile.gif

PC Passport is as basic an IT course as the school will do i think. Its a suite of modules basically on practical use of a computer.

If you have any intelligence at all i would imagine it would be useless to you

perhaps i am just snobby and cynical we will see what other people say

If i am not here i am somewhere else

It is essentiall a more flexible and cheaper alternative to ECDL

you can use any office package(not just MS Office), doesn't coast £200 per student, no need to double register and only NABs(40 Questions, harder than normal NABs though) no external exam, Grade based on NABS and/or projects. All practical really.

Pour moi:

Higher Computing
Higher English
Higher Maths
Higher Music
Higher Biology

And PC passport is more of a subject that acts as a "passport" (as the name would imply) to get you into your desired college or university course, as almost all courses now require some sort of knowledge or background working with computers.

yeh i am not sure i would say it is a passport to a college or university. Certainly not university

i think you are right that is the point of the course as well as evidence for someone who would want to go into admin work or something where they demand experiance with office

If i am not here i am somewhere else

Yeah, I don't even know why I said university, now that I think about it blink.gif

But generally the point of the course is for less computer-literate people who are aiming to get into a now computer-dependant industry - Like different types of craftsmanship, for example, are generally done using computers now, as opposed to a good ol' pen n' paper.

yeh that is true i have a friend who is doing an engineering apprenticeship and they write programs to create machined parts or something like that anyway. I just think that since it seems to involve an awful lot of mircosoft office (perhaps not by design but just by what schools seem to use) its only use is for office work but even then sage may be used

If i am not here i am somewhere else
