Seems like (next year!) majority of medschools are gonna require students to sit extra entrance tests:

Hmm, I wonder how it will compare to the BMAT... I did wonder when something like this would happen.

Seems a bit strange that this new test won't have a science paper like the BMAT.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Yeah, that's quite weird. It says it's not curriculum-based either; for the BMAT it tests GCSE knowledge, doesn't it?

for anyone applying to Medicine or Dentistry in 2007 later...

The UKCAT site is now live:

http://www.ukcat.ac.uk/home/

However, the example questions and test centres won't be online until end May/June

But for now, there is still some info on the test

Summer romances end for all kinds of reasons, but when all is said and done, they have one thing in common -- they are shooting stars, a spectacular moment of light in the heavens, a fleeting glimpse of eternity... and in a flash, they're gone.

I've been doing practise questions and I actually enjoy working my way through them!

The only ones which appear to be my weakness are associating shapes! laugh.gif

Oh dear, I must not be very observant. tongue.gif There are other websites and stuff with 'matching shapes' questions so I can brush up on them if they make an appearance in the test.

I like the ones where you have to formulate realistic sentances using codes.

What does everyone else think about it?

Ive did this test yesterday, its just a weird. When you leave its difficult to have any idea how you've done but the one thing I will say is that the questions arent too difficult but they get progressively harder in each section and time is definately the biggest issue. There just isnt enough of it. I mean I think if you break down the sections for the shapes you get somethin like 9.3 secs per question which is pretty ridiculous.

I tend to be quite good with timing, although I've heard from several people that you simply don't get enough for this test.

Is the ukcat used as a last resort when the admissions panel is unsure about the candidate? Or do they consider everyone's ukcat score?

Considering most of the Scottish unis use a points system..ie academics has so many points, extra-curricular has so many points, etc, I would imagine that it would just be allocated a certain number of points....but I'm not even gonna attempt to fathom how they choose their students huh.gif
