Hello, I'm crashing Higher Spanish this year, which my French teacher reassures me will be fine (?!) rolleyes.gif Was just wondering if anyone could tell me roughly how many tenses you need to know for the course, what it's like etc, and if there is anything major from Standard Grade (apart from the obvious) that I will have to spend my summer holidays learning?
Does anyone know whether it's similar in setup to the French Higher (i.e. are the exams roughly the same format?)
Gracias smile.gif

With the certainty of tides,

Still I'll rise."

The set up of the Higher Spanish exam is exactly the same as the French one so you shouldn't have any problems there.

The verbs you have to learn are the same I think as well...future, past, past participle, conditional etc. I'll look out my jotters and stuff and check if there are any more biggrin.gif

We learnt 9 tenses but strictly speaking you only have to learn 6 I think.

The tenses you will definately learn are:
*Perfect
*Imperfect
*Preterite
*Present
*Future
*Conditional
Within the past tenses you will learn about the past participle.
Within the present tense you will learn the present continous ie trabajando= working hablando=speaking etc- the "ing" part basically.
Others you may learn are:
*Imperfect Subjunctive
*Conditional Subjunctive
* Pluperfect

These shouldnt really be worried about. These are about a combination of tenses to make a new one.

Also the spanich course is almost identical to the french course in terms of examination.

I did Crash Spanish, sort of, took S5 off of it. Basically brush up on vocab from Standard Grade cos its a heavy course if you dont.

Have fun!!
I did crash Int 2 Spanish after doing Higher French and i found that really hard! There is just so much to learn and a year is just not long enough, you will never have the wide range of vocab that u had with french haveing done it probably since primary school! Thts where i really struggled i just practically had to translate english to spanish with a dictionary to do any sort of piece o writing!

However if u learn loadsa vocab and are prepared to do loadsa extra work and stuff i think you could manage it but be under no illusions i will be really hard!

Good Luck!

Yeh thats true, but a lot of us have to use the dictionary for every other word. Read some basic vocab and learn the endings of the regular present tense(or at least look at them).
