How did you find this years exam? I have mixed feelings, I thought some of the questions were really simple, some of them were a bit off though. There seemed to be more than a fair share of "explain what such and such means". There also were NO derivations (well I suppose you had to understand the SHM derivation to get the SHM question).

Overall I think I did OK, I got the same answers as other people in my class for a lot of questions.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

I found it fairly good.

However - yes - I spent a long time during my revision trying to understand division of wavefront problems and learning how to derive the relevant equations. For nothing. Well, c'est la vie.

It is, though, starting to seem like the SQA always redesign their physics paper styles the years I sit them.

I don’t think I did to well as I didn’t really revise that well since I needed B’s in my other subject I just concentrated on them. I think I might have got a C if I’m really lucky.

Higher Maths
Adv Higher Physics

i liked it mostly

There was one derivation btw - Q3ai

i had a little chuckle to myself wheni saw that the easiest questions was the LAST question how strange eh

Also i just noticed after the exam that there was no nuclear physics in it. I like that stuff cos its so easy and quick to do

If i am not here i am somewhere else

I really cant believe how simple that was biggrin.gif I was anticipating physics to be the hardest paper i was going to have to sit but thankfully this wasnt the case.

My gamble paid off as there were no derivations needed biggrin.gif Apart from 3 a) which i managed. Was dissapointed to not find a relativstic motion question huh.gif but I really cant complain as I found the paper on the whole very manageable. I answered every question and have good confidence in my answers. The only light concern i have is for the SHM section, missed the teaching of that topic way back in October and never did fully understand.

Thats me now -> biggrin.gif No more physics for me...

True, but that wasn't one of the derivations specified by the SQA arrangements, that was only an application of equating two forces.

As I said to you earlier, I think you probably did a lot better than you think you did.

School didn't offer it (only have 2 physics teachers) and I would have needed the department head (excellent teacher) to teach me, as he taught me higher.

I also wanted to do Advanced Higher Computing! I suppose there isn't much point moaning about it now! It's too late!!!

Thats me just back home, since the exam finsished, and come on to HSN.
Overall i found the exam fairly good, although i thought that there were alot of explanation questions, and hardly any deriviations and proofs. There were alot of show that this equals that questions which i liked biggrin.gif

didn't think the paper was too bad this year, some of it was straightforward. really surprised there was no derivation by intergration or anything about relativistic mass. couldn't prove the error in the wavelength in Q10 though...

I thought there were too many questions to answer. By the end I was too knackered to look over my answers! Overall the paper was OK.

I agree, it took me far longer to finish than any of the other past papers did.

Just curious about the last question. What did everyone put down. By this point I just wanted to put down anything I could think of really.

Light can be polarised by reflection from an insulator, when the switch is closed the crystal is no longer an insulator so light is not polarised.

Last part - sees the polarised light, as it is turned the image disappears and then reappears as we get to 180 degrees.

I didn't think the exam was too bad. There was a lot of explain, state and describe questions, about 30 marks worth if I'm right. I know I've definitely thrown away at least 9 marks on that uncertainty question though because I just took one look at that and thought erm no. I also never noticed that the polarising filter was being rotated through 180 degrees, despite the fact it was staring me in the face in black and white.

I think i did pretty good in that paper, I was really dreading it because I did know very much of the course but the only stuff I did know was in the paper! I think I might have got an A in the paper but I think my investigation was quite poor.
BTW is anyone going on to do physics at uni?
