Hey, I'm a student doing Maths at St Andrews, I'm at the end of my second year now(started 2006), so I might be able to answer questions about St Andrews for anyone thinking of going there in 2008.

Hey! Yeh ive accepted to do Maths with French there in 2008!

Are you enjoying it? Is it like a gradual learning curve where you can study the topics which interest you?

Good to hear.

Yeah I'm enjoying it very much. I originally was doing Physics but then I came around and decided Maths was way better. I'd say it's a fairly gradual learning curve. The first two years you will take the core requirement modules. As long as you get a B in AH maths then you can skip MT1001 and go straight to MT1002, which is pretty much advanced higher maths with bits added on to it. Some people somehow skip MT1002 and go straight to MT2001 which is the core second level module. Then you take other modules as well like pure and/or applied and/or statistics. So you will be able to specialise more in certain topics in Honours in 3rd and 4th year. In Honours you can do pure and/or applied stuff and also Statistics modules. Sub - Honours modules are straight forward enough, I would recommend going to lectures and getting a complete set of notes though, it helps. Go to tutorials etc..... Nothing to worry about. If there's anything more specific that you are concerned about just ask, academic or otherwise. I didn't have a clue before I came.
