Hello everyone im new but iv been looking and looking all over the net and jist wondered what everyone thought of glasgow for students ( i have already seen the threads and read them but thought i would ask again) HOWEVER, more importantly, what are everyones offers? I have applied for physio at gcal but havent heard back... i am starting to panic i really want to go there! I have also applied for strath pharmacy and nothing back either - or is it just ucas as i have seen everyone ranting about them!! Has anyone gotten offers from any of the above? I am beginning to become sleepless! Put my mind at rest or just shoot me down like a dog!! Either way i have to know....oh and btw, whats the UNITE student accommadation like? I fancy blackfriars - anyone know anything about it!!
Thanks for reading my blagger and am sorry if i wasted your time.....

Blackfriars is more aimed at Strathclyde students to be honest. One of my mates from school is living in there just now and it's pretty decent - en suite bathroom, double bed, free internet for...£78 a week maybe?

Cooperage Place would be more suitable for students of Glasgow Uni I'd say.

no free internet actually dry.gif , its quite expensive considering you'd pay the same if you lived in a normal flat and when you move in you have to pay£350 for utility bills through the year.
As weird and dangerous as telling loads of random internet people is, I stay in blackfriars and I'd agree that almost everyone goes to Strathclyde here, apart from of course my lovely (used very loosely) flatmates.

So If you can afford it and want somewhere that isn't actually falling apart to live in come here, but apart from that I'd just go into uni halls (the laundry service is much cheaper too) Is there a reason that you can't get into halls?

Oh and I wouldn't worry about not getting offers back yet, a guy at work only got his first offer yesterday and that was from Glasgow and they're usually really quick.

Well there you go - I thought internet was free!

I'm struggling to find somewhere decent for accommodation for Glasgow Uni...don't want to stay in halls again, Coopergate is too far away, the uni flats are too expensive and have restricted internet, private landlords are generally lazy, useless sods...
But on no account am I going back to the parents' house. Getting up at 7am to get to uni would not be fun.

Did you say you were coming to Glasgow next year Donna? Where will you be staying?

I live about 15 minutes away from Kilmarnock, so when I start at Glasgow in September (Hopefully... I took it up as my firm acceptance) I'll need to get up every day at about 7, but I do that for school anyway so there's no change there. And from what I've heard of the halls, I'm not going to go there tongue.gif

Yip I am, and I'm not very sure yet cos I don't want to into halls and going home isn't really an option so probably a flat somewhere with somebody, actually I should probably start thinking about that now before I leave it too late.

Ideally I'd get a flat too, but at 17 there's no way I'd be able to fund a flat :/

The only way I can afford it is by having a job as well as uni,cos its going to be quite expensive next year, especially when I'm expecting to be able to live in the west end blink.gif

Yeah you really do! I m not sure about the accomodation situation in Glasgow, but in St Andrews all the flats have filled up already and some people are being faced with no option but to stay in uni halls again, I had it quite lucky getting a flat, but even still I had to run around like a madman for a week looking at places and rushing back to the estate agents, (evil people btw!) only to be told that the flat had gone when I was viewing it! They operate a first come first serve lists system here for the most part, so there is always a mad rush for getting flats, and in some cases people have queued overnight just to get the first call on the list! Best of luck with it, its not a pleasant experience flat hunting, i wudnt wish it on anyone!

The flat situation is usually pretty good in the west end. I've been browsing and there's a goodly selection available right now (though all a little more expensive than I'd like!). I'd imagine this will get better towards the end of term as contracts come to an end - it shouldn't be a problem finding one anyway.

But seriously...some are £750 pcm for TWO BEDROOMS. Wtf mateeeee.

I was looking earlier too and it looks like theres quite a lot but they all want you to move in right away but I don't want to move til June so maybe I'll wait another couple of months.

and £750 ohmy.gif how rich do they think students are?

Personally I'd have waited until August, that way you have June and July to work extra shifts at where ever you work in order to get some emergency funding behind you.

I've seen some flats advertised right now whose rent period actually starts in September so I'm probably going to be heading after one of those.

I can't really do that though cos then I'd need to move home and not have a job and I'd miss everyone here and I'd have to speak to my mum every day. And I should be able to get loads of extra shifts cos someones going on maternity leave soon smile.gif .

Thats how much my flat in st andrews is a month...

The flat situation appears to be a hell of a lot better than here, if you are only starting to have flats being advertised for september now, then you ve got plenty of time to look! All the flats in st andrews are pretty much gone, people who havent got one by now, have to stay in uni halls again pretty much...
