2004 - Written Paper - Q2(b)(i)

Time after time I get this to come out with one decimal place out. Is it something to do with the bonding in phosphorus - is it P4, OR could the answer book just be wrong?

What does everyone else get?

1 mole phosphorous = 31.0g = 6.02x1023 atoms

8g = 8/31 = 0.2580645161 moles

0.25... x 6.02x1023 = 1.55 x 1023

could just be a typo in the L&L marking scheme...will check SQA

edit: yup, it's just a typo..official marking scheme has 1.5x10 23 atoms wink.gif

Thanks for checking that - I just have the answers which come with the book. Good to know I'm not going mad though!
