How do you do Q2 2005?

Is it true that when bond break energy is given out (exothermic) and when bonds form energy is taken in (endothermic). This is relating to Q8 2005.

How do you do Q14 2005? I have always hated this kind of thing.

Can someone explain Q34 2005?

How do you do Q37 2005?

Thank you!!

2. Answer C as when added togher the solutions form Copper(II)carbonate. Using the solubility table in the data booklet you find this compound insoluble and therefore forms a precipirtate.

8. Energy is required to break bonds and when bonds are formed energy is taken in therefore answer B.

14. The compound is molten i.e the temp must be greater than 501 so the metal occurs as a liquid. The density of the metal is greater than that of the compound so it occurs on the bottom. Answer D

34. If you add NaOH it breaks down into Na+ and OH-. The OH- ion neutralises the H+ ions and therefore the equilibrium moves to the right to combat this change.

37. Potassium carbonate will react with HCl to give off hydrogen and creates an alkaline solution therefore answer B.
