I've got b equal to 2 but don't have a clue how to get a.

I'm leaving all these questions a bit late I know but any help would be very much appreciated smile.gif

Yeah, you've got the first part right, which is recognising that x=2 is a root so 2-b=0 so b=2

The next part is easier, all you have to do is put the other point into your equation and solve for a:


\begin{align*}y = ax(x-2) \\
y=-6, x=1, so: \\
-6 = a(1-2)   .\\
-6 = -1a    ,\\
a = \frac{-6}{-1}  , \\
a = 6   .\\ \end{align*}
