1- A program converts student marks to grades that are in the range A to E. Each mark is input from the keyboard and must be in the range 0 to 120. If the mark is outside the range, the user is prompted to re-enter the mark.
(a) Identify 2 data otems required in this program and state their data types.
(b) Name 2 software development tools which would be used in implementing this program, and describe the purpose of each.
© Which one of the following algorithms would be required in this program?
Counting occurences? Linear Search? Input Validation? Finding Maximum?

2- A the end of the sponsored walk, all the contestant data is entered into a file. Which algorithm from the list below will be required to evaluate the slowest time taken to complete the walk? Give a reason for your answer.

3- A security system is to be developed for a local insurance company. Each employess will be issued with a security card upon which be enclosed their personal details and a 4 digit Personal Identification Number (PIN). A photo of the employee will also be displayed on each card. When keyed in, the PIN will be sued by the system to check access rights to particular sections of the insurance building.
(a) List, in correct order, the stages involved in the development of software for this security system.
(b) Identify 2 objects and their corresponding operations that will be needed to produce the security cards.

1a.

Variable storing input - integer
Converted variable - char (character, byte, whatever its called in comal)

I'd use one variable for both, but never mind...

1b.

Compiler - Used to translate the high level code into machine code
Debugger - This is used to monitor the process during runtime. It monitors code execution and traps exceptions to show you on which line the program crashes (if it crashes that is...)

Input validation!

3a) Should also be a pretty simple question too - it's the basis for EVERY software development. It's a cycle, known in some texts as the Waterfall Model! That'll be in your notes for sure!
