What was the correct answer for that, if arrows had been included?

I got:
D,E,F was text
G,H,I was animation
J,K was graphic

and for ©

I got:
(i) D,E
(ii)I,J

All of which were guesses!

I wrote about Boolan aswell.

For the other questions I wrote:

3(a) - Duplication of data
       - related data is not grouped logically together
       - no flexible reports/queries

4(a)????? - I guessed that question

What did everyone write for that?

I cant remember wot else i wrote apart from boolean operators. I think i wrote somethin like "if he knew the correct product number then he would be able to search and find that specific mini-disc player", was a shot in the dark tho.

3(a) i wrote (i think):
  • time consuming
  • need to create new records each day a book was late (was a shot in the dark there lol, but seemed logical at the time tongue.gif "Any overdue book is charged at 20p per day up to a maximu of £5.00", so i guessed that they would need to make a new one to update the fine but thats wrong lol)
  • cant remember the 3rd one i done

4(a) i wrote (again, i think):

Hardware requirements
Network cards and a server would need to be in place in order to allow data to be transferred between the client and the server, where the database is located. (something like that i think)

Software requirements
Suitable database software must be available for use, compatible with the format of the database on the server, in order for staff to not only retrieve the database, but to also make changes to it. (somethin like that)

Communications requirements
ummmm wot did i write for this...cant actually remember.

Q1 - how did peoples ER diagrams and primary/foreign keys turn out?

Q2 - my mind blanked on Q2 but think i done it ok.

Q3 - thought this was straight forward, a few niggly bits

Q4 - wasnt too sure about the social implications so wrote a big answer and hoped for the best tongue.gif also wasnt TOO sure about the comm requirements but think that was kool.

Hypermedia:

Q11 - Totally forgot the defenition, which i had been looking at just before the exam ("") found © a bit of a bugger to answer cause they both link with each other imho.

Q12 - the dodgy one which im sure has a mistake. apart from that bit then the rest of that was fine, cept i never knew what to put for (e)? anyone shed some light on that? lol

Q13 - sailed it, my favourite kind of question lol. only bit was advanced feature but think i got it  alright. (1 would be boolean search syntax no? AND, OR, etc?)

1)
Intructors - teach - Class Details - in - Course Details
1 to M M to 1

Course Details - Course No. (Primary Key)
Instructor - Instructor ID (Primary key)
Class Details - Class ID (Primary key), Instructor ID (Foreign Key as it requires a link to instructor Table), Course No (Foreign Key, Keeps Course Info together in Class Details)

12d) Resolver Function, Accessor Function
12e) Presentation Specifications

13c) Boolean Operators (And, Or, Not) and Wildcard search

(d)

4(a)

11(d)

Those weren't the foreign keys...

4(a)

11(d)

2(a) and 2(b) i kinda guessed lol, im shit at those and mind blanked then so sure i got that wrong. cant remember my answers but here goes with the ones i do remember:

2(a) - cant remember

2(b) - Planning - Cant remember
Control - Term Average

3 - hated this one.

3© (i) - I wrote 4 attributes, those being "Member's Name", "Members Address", "Book Title" and "Date Due Back" (think thats wot i used).
3© (ii) - I said a report and gave a brief detail about it

3(d) - again wrote some speil about a report

4(a) - already said wot i wrote in a previous post
4(b) (i) - already talked about this one too, cept never said my answers. My only real answer i was able to give was that ethically they would need to request the permission of the student in order to be allowed to post their results.

11(d) - I chose Virtual Reality. cant remember my details at all but i'll try my best:
11(d)(i) - allows virtual learning where the user can take part of exercises
- allows training to be given out with no threat of injuries etc (for example firefighters)

11(d)(ii) - cant remember at all lol

11(d)(iii) - again, cant remember at all.

Overall I thought the paper was fair. What was everyone's reasons why the flat-file database was unsuitable?

Overall I thought the paper was fair. What was everyone's reasons why the flat-file database was unsuitable?

1 - It only supports one table
2 - No Relationship capability
3 - All displayed over one table on one page which makes it very long and much harder to navigate,

Ally

Posted 27 May 2004 - 06:47 PM

This was my answer to the flat-file 1:

3(a) - Duplication of data
- related data is not grouped logically together
- no flexible reports/queries

I think there may have been quite a few more answers for that 1.

Ally

Posted 27 May 2004 - 06:48 PM

Scott, do you know if my answers would be acceptable?

Ally

Posted 27 May 2004 - 06:51 PM

Also Scott, since you seem to be a genius at Information Systems, what were the attributes for 3(c )(i)

Scott

Posted 27 May 2004 - 06:58 PM

Yeah they should be fine, there was a whole load of possible answers for that one.

3c i

Borrowers Entity:
Member's Library No. (Required to link to Loans table)
Member's Name
Members' Address

Loans Entity:
Loan Number
Member's Library No.
Book ISBN
Date Due Back

That should be sufficient, I know some people chose the Books entity, which I'm sure would also be fine smile.gif

Just history to go for me biggrin.gif

We had never been taught the advanced features of a search engine - what were they? would refinement be one?
