HSN forum Upgrade 22/02/05

George

Posted 22 February 2005 - 05:28 PM

We've just purchased a license for Invision Power Board (this forum), and the software will be updated to the latest version this evening.

This may cause some temporary problems in accessing the forum, so please bear with us smile.gif

Also, the forum might not look right immediately after the upgrade, but I'll get that fixed as soon as possible.

I'm not sure really dry.gif

I think it's mainly security and bug fixes (so the moderator warning system should hopefully work smile.gif )

I like the new changes - you don't have to go to a separate page to log in - it's cool!

Yes, the upgrade seems to have been done smile.gif

There are a few things that will need tweaked though (I should get that done this evening).

Is there not supposed to be a 'Find member's topics' link in their profile? It seems to be missing.

hmm... i would have recommended vB over invision. definitely better performance wise and also feature wise.

Well, we were just sort of used to IPB biggrin.gif

We'd also spent a lot of time integrating it with the site, so it just made sense to stick with it. Plus I've been having a look at the next update for IPB (currently being tested on their community forum), and there are some nice new features smile.gif

Yeah, the database table which contains all the posts had become corrupted. I managed to repair it though smile.gif

Sounds nasty. Do you know why that happened?

Yeah, I was quite worried for a bit. I don't know how it happened, but I don't think it was too serious because it repaired itself quite easily.

Do you keep regular backups of the database? tongue.gif

Daily backups to a secondry drive in the server and weekly backups to an off-site location. :-).
