#15579 Where Does Everyone Want To Go Now?

Posted by Kevin_Kilbane on 28 February 2005 - 08:26 PM in Course Choices

Where are you thinking of going?

Im going to Glasgow to do Accounting and Economics. Its got far the best reputation (it being the "classic" Uni), the West End is healthy and it is right where home is.

I wouldn't fancy living away in Bournemouth or Sheffield - cost to much when I could get everything for free at home.

Ive not replied to any of my choices yet. Just want to confirm I am doing the right thing at the Open Days.

Have to say QM and GUU seem to be better than Strathclyde's Union.

It's a bit late to be complaining that you hate geography! You chose Higher Geography so it must have attracted you in some way. Try to stay relaxed because you will perform much better under exam conditions if you can. Good luck for both exams.

Cheers, I need all the luck I can get! laugh.gif

I started H Geo in fifth year for a month, then when we returned from the Summer Holidays, I really began to hate it and decided to change to French. However, I promised the teacher I would take it up in 6th year and its just not been my thing. What is pissing me off is that I want to get H Accounting because I am doing it next year at Glasgow but Geo will screw/exhaust me and I'll make some really stupid mistakes.

Ermdeviation - Good Luck, it's going to a tough one!

I nearly crashed my car I got for 18th on Xmas Eve.

huh.gif

I was driving along Maryhill Road and I didnt notice there were 2 sets of traffic lights. Both were at red but I drove though one of them and a car came out and just avoided me.

Worse thing was...my mum and Dad were behind me.

I'm so tired from work its unreal. I've done 3 8am starts, so I had to get up at 6.45 am Tuesday, Thursday and today.

I could barely feel my legs last night and everything felt so slow.

Now, I'm doing my contracted hours over the weekend and 8-6 on Monday.

Uni's certainly a massive transition from school.

There is no-one there telling you what to do, where to go or chasing you up if you miss a class. Your on your own and from day 1 you've got to be there, ready to go.

In saying that, I'm having the time of my life right now. The first Semester has been difficult but I've learnt a lot of things which will make be better prepared for next Semester.

One of the best things I've done was register on www.thestudentroom.co.uk and www.newstudent.org. These are websites where you can meet people going to your choosen Uni's and I'm not ashamed to say that I've met my best mate of one of them!

Uni's difficult in the first few weeks. I didn't make any friends on my course until 2 weeks in after a night out - it's important you go to these but I'm lucky that my course - Accounting - has less than 100 people on it and only 50 turn up for lectures so you really know everyone.

If you meet the right people, get the right course and like where your at then you'll have an amazing time. IMO, Uni can't be compared to school - I don't speak to many people from school and I've only been out with one person from school since leaving in May.

Basically, as your filing your UCAS form out, make sure you pick the University(s) that you'd be comfortable at.

Hetherthington Building?

Is that the Languages one?

If so, its beside the Adam Smith Building. You can either get to it by taking the wee lane at the side of the library which appears dodgey but you end right outside it. Or, take the lane at the QMU then go round to the front of the Adam Smith and its opposite you. Or, at the corner of Byres Road (the corner where Curlers is) walk up past the car park at Ashton Lane and you'll eventually come to it - its got a University of Glasgow sign on it.

#18452 What do you hope do with your degree?

Posted by Kevin_Kilbane on 08 April 2005 - 10:35 PM in After School

What is everyone thinking of doing after Uni/with their degree?

I was considering doing a postgrad course at either Glasgow - again - or down south at LSE.

After this, I will hopefully end up becoming a Chartered Accountant working down in the City of London.

What's everyone else hoping to do?

Opportunity Costs.

Hate them and we spent less than a period on them.

#14711 Universities

Posted by Kevin_Kilbane on 16 February 2005 - 07:07 PM in Accounting

Im going for Glasgow. The course looks excellent - there is the chance to do some Business Law, and the area where the Uni is, is really top class.

I don't really like Strathclyde and its just like going into town everday which I don't really want to be doing.

Its probably personal choice but I think Glasgow has got a better reputation since it is a "classical" uni.

I know that Glasogw gives you maxim exemptions from the CA exams but Im not sure about Strathclyde. I read it gives you exemptions but not sure if it is as many as Glasgow.
