#91043 Another quadratics question.

Posted by John on 17 November 2006 - 03:04 PM in Problem Questions

You are correct.

Now what you need to do is subsitute x and y for the co-ordinate (0,18).

And then solve for a.

Tell me what you get for your answer and I'll let you know if it is correct.

#92016 Arrrghhhhh...

Posted by John on 13 December 2006 - 07:03 PM in Mathematics

Yes you do that first.

And just showing you the answer will not help you learn how to do it.

Ok, I shall be here.

multiply the brackets using the FOIL(First Outsides Insides Last)

(x power2.gif + x -1 )(x power2.gif + x -1 )

would result in multiplying x power2.gif by the terms in the second bracket, then multiplying x ^-1 to the terms in the second bracket, and collecting like terms.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For integrating the terms, treat each resultant term individually.

the rule for integration is

\begin{align*}\int { \frac {x^n}{a} } \, dx = \frac{x^{n+1}}{a(n+1)}\end{align*}

Integrate each term individually

#92021 Arrrghhhhh...

Posted by John on 13 December 2006 - 07:29 PM in Mathematics

your middle term should be to the power 3

#92019 Arrrghhhhh...

Posted by John on 13 December 2006 - 07:20 PM in Mathematics

the second term is slightlu incorrect, do you know where you went wrong with it?

#91638 Btw......this unit I've been "doing" for the past few weeks....

Posted by John on 05 December 2006 - 10:01 PM in Mathematics

I recommend FoxIt Reader 2.0 it's better biggrin.gif

And all you really need to know about Integration from Unit 2 is

Raise the power and divide by that new power.

#90287 Buoyancy Force

Posted by John on 19 October 2006 - 06:40 PM in Physics

The Bouyancy Force is created by the force below the object being greater than the force above the object, and if you take the force above the object from the force below the object you get the Bouyancy force IIRC.
