Oh and I googled an explanation for question 4 in the multi-choice and it came up with this:

Which would suggest that the answer's C: Guanine at the 5' end.

Apparently the 3' end has a hydroxyl group attached to the 3' carbon atom.

A neutral drop has a charge of 0. So for a drop to have a charge of -1.6e-12 it must have 10,000,000 excess electrons (1.6e-12/1.6e-19).

For highers - started a week before prelims, few hours each day (I didn't need to do much because I'd already revised for the unit tests).

For AHs - bugger all till 9th Jan. From then until prelim time (30th Jan) I've been doing 2-3h/night. During study leave I'll limit myself to 4-5 hours on exam-less days.

There's so much more to learn in AHs! For higher chemistry I could revise a unit in about 3 hours; in AH chemistry it takes me 10-15 hours per unit!

The Partition Coefficient just gives you a ratio. ether/acid is probably always used as it gives a ratio of greater than 1 and so is easier to interpret than if it was acid/ether.

e.g.

ether/acid = 4/1, so 4 times as much of the substance will be found in the ether
acid/ether = 1/4, so acid contains 4 times less than the ether (more difficult to understand)

If that makes sense

This is such a horrible unit so far!!! Doesn't help that the teacher we have does minimal teaching and then bombs us with examples which we don't understand

Anyway, could someone help me with these:

Four charges of +4.0nC are situated at each of the corners of a square 0.1m wide.
Charges at points Q, R, S and P.

a)Determine electrostatic force on charge P
b) What is the electrostatic force on a -1nC charge placed at the centre of the square? Justify your answer.

For a) I got something like 2.75 x 10^-5N on a bearing of 045. It took about 3 pages of working to get to this and I have no idea if it's right.

For b) I put 0N and waffled about vector sums adding to zero and the forces all cancelling out. Blah blah blah.

Also, derive E=V/d. It's probably in the sheets we were *supposed* to get last week

Hmm that's well weird!

Are you sure that's not your prelim mark? I don't know how they could make a mistake if it's down on paper that you got 98...maybe it's an error in the grade bounderies and it's actually 99 for an A or something.

My school are being complete t**** about the whole component mark thing but I managed to get my Human Biology ones (only because I got a bloody letter from the SQA though!) : 129/130

I also got maths: 128/130
