#52880 What grade did you get in the 2005 IS exam?

Posted by Gavers on 05 September 2005 - 09:06 PM in Information Systems

D. I must have grown so bored of it I didn't take any of it in. Auch well, I didn't like it, and I got what I needed in my other higher anyway. And besides, this subject was really just a space filler for me. Meh... smile.gif I'm happy. smile.gif

#52877 Whats the deal with Higher IS?

Posted by Gavers on 05 September 2005 - 09:04 PM in Information Systems

I did info systems last year and hated it. Maybe it just wasn't my sorta thing, but I got incredibly bored during the subject, and consequentially, only got a D in the exam. I know the course has changed since then, which might make it more up to date and more relevant, but when I did it it was all out of date and seemed to be irrelevant.

It also seemed to take forever to go over the smallest of details, although that could have just been boredom. I obviously didn't take any of it in.

Like I said though, that's not everyones opinion, just one more disgruntled student, giving you an argument against taking it wink.gif

#49133 Buying back your papers

Posted by Gavers on 13 August 2005 - 10:33 PM in Exam Results 2005

I think its a bit mince when in art (i dont do the subject, but know folks who do), they send away your final piece you do for the exam and theres no way of you getting it back. One of my friends did one of her best pieces of art in that exam, and now its locked up forever. Unless we decide to break into the SQA's stores.... hehehe ph34r.gif laugh.gif

#37112 WOOOHOOO!

Posted by Gavers on 24 June 2005 - 12:02 AM in General Chat

Congrats to you!

I play piano, I've got my grade 4, and thats enough for me, I can play what I want, and can work out stuff I can't play. I could probably get quite a high grade, but cant be bthered with the theory side of things or taking any more lessons. I also played long belled cornet untill my teacher decided to be a complete btcih and do somethin which would take more explaining than I'm willing to do at his moment in time (too tied)

Anyways, I've got grade 3 cornet and grade 4 piano, and I'm generally pretty musical anyways. But this thread aint about me, congrats to you for getting your grade 7, really well done smile.gif

(I apologise for this post bein so jumpy and long, im tired...)

#34443 Colour of exam paper effect exam performance?

Posted by Gavers on 07 June 2005 - 11:40 PM in General Chat

This is all old stuff. Not just chronologically, but... something else brainy sounding as well.

I read fro a Focus magazine from Ma in 1998 about the effects colours have on the human pshyce.(May 1998, page 56-61, entitled "Would you be frightened by the boys in pink?")

Teams wearing red have wn the FA cup more times than ones wearing any other colour, and Man Utd had a grey away strip, which they ditched becaue they lost a game 3-0.

Hees a few things about the colours of the papers

Int 1/ Advanced Higher (Blueish) - Gives the impression of calm and distance because it is of the shorter wavelengths. (another interesting thing to note is that purple which blue is very close to on the colour spectrum gives an impression of spirituality and peaceful contemplation - it's what priests and clergymen wear)

Int 2 (greenish) - because it lies in the middle of the colour spectrum it and takes little to adjust to it, its a calming colour, and symbolises balance and harmony

Higher (red/pink) - at the long end of the spectrum of light, refracts in the eye to make the object appear nearer, and is symbolic of the "fight or flight" response (kinda how I felt in my Advanced higher papers, lol)

I am inclined to agree with you that it has a psychological effect on you when your doing your paper, albeit a very small one.

Makes you wonder why they go to all the trouble of getting the coloured paper out of the packets in the first place tongue.gif

Maybe its jus coz im a bit tired laugh.gif But thats my views smile.gif

#34295 The Best Thing Since Sliced Bread...

Posted by Gavers on 07 June 2005 - 04:45 PM in General Chat

Yep, eclairs are made from Choux pastry. Very tasty biggrin.gif

Shaun - all techy teachers say that for some reason.

"This program is the best thing since sliced bread."
"This transistor is the best thing since sliced bread."
"This desk is the best thing since sliced bread." And so on, I could bore you with more and more of these comparisons, but I'll be nice. smile.gif

Oh yeah, for me - it's gotta be opposable thumbs - they're sooo handy!

[edit] okay, so they came before sliced bread. In that case, I'd have to say.... Kayaks. Soo much fun biggrin.gif [/edit]

#33188 Advanced Higher Techy?

Posted by Gavers on 03 June 2005 - 12:21 AM in Other

I actually thought it was one of the hardest exams I've done this year. And i fecked up the timings - thought we only had15 mins left at quarter to 3, so that kinda threw me a bit. I'm trying to avoid talking but it too much really, everyone in our class found it really hard.

And yea, it was too short.

Auch, it's over now, woo!

A guy walks into a brain shop and sees 3 brains sitting in jars on a shelf. He goes over to the man behind the counter and asks

"How much for that brain, I think it's Oddbins'?"

"Okay... how much for that one... Craig's?"

"£330 as well"

"Hmm... How about that one? Erm... Tony Blair's one?"

"Sixteen thousand quid!!! How's that one so much??"

"It's never been used before..."
