Could someone please please tell me if the Accounting and Finance Higher is anything like the Finance Unit in Business? Any info helpful

I'm not sure.
Isn't it to do something with sorting balances and to do with VAT, Tax etc...

I suggest that you go to the SQA website and then follow the links to Accounting and Finance.

You will probably get a rough idea about the subject.

Site wasnt very good. It gave me a vague idea though which is a bit more than what I had before. I'll ask my friend. She did Accounting and Finance (and failed it, but anyway!). I'll ask ber. blink.gif - that smilie looks spooky

Accounting and Finance : Higher


Why Accounting and Finance?

This course is designed to enable you to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for understanding and taking part in the world of business. Even if you are not planning a career in business, this subject helps to improve your personal effectiveness by developing your ability to think logically, work accurately, make decisions and solve problems.



Entry to the course

This is at the discretion of the school/college but you would normally be expected to have attained one of the following -

Standard Grade Accounting and Finance at Credit level
Intermediate 2 Accounting and Finance units or course.


Course Outline

The course is made up of three 40 hour units plus 40 hours of flexible time.

Financial Accounting

This unit should enable you to:

prepare a manufacturing, trading and profit and loss account
prepare the profit and loss appropriation section and the balance sheet of a partnership
prepare the profit and loss appropriation section and the balance sheet of a public limited company for internal use
prepare a cash-flow statement for a public limited company.

Management Accounting

This unit should enable you to:

prepare a production budget and a cash budget
prepare an overhead analysis and job cost statement
prepare process cost accounts
prepare absorption and marginal costing profit statements.

Using Accounting Information

This unit should enable you to:

use break-even analysis
prepare a profit maximisation statement for short-term decision making
analyse business performance and financial position

Core Skills

H Problem Solving (Critical Thinking)
Int.2 Numeracy (Using Numbers)


Assessment

To achieve this award, the learning outcomes of each unit must be achieved. These are assessed in school/college by the teacher/lecturer in accordance with SQA guidelines. In addition there is a final examination, set and marked by the SQA.

Its very very well paid I'll have you know and my uncle is an accountant to and he's not the stereotypical boring accountant. He travels the world. He goes on sand races in Dubai. Lulu... I wasn't insulting your choice of career - I was only giving my opinion on it. I'm sure if I said I wanted to be a tea picker in India you'd suggest that was boring.

I done accounts last year, very confusing course at first, but as you get the hang of each topic it's a piece of cake, unfortunately my cake was a bad one but the course was great! Good luck with the accounting career, my dad has been successful in it...

yeah, he's a chartered accountant and set up his own business, so he runs the accounting side of it and well, he has been really successful and worked hard for it. I guess it just appeals to some people, especially if you are good at it, i enjoyed it, but only when i got the hang of things. its a challenge! smile.gif
