at my school 5th yrs get half a term of wednesday afternoons(2hrs) of PSE a year an this is unless you are in the publicity group when you get none
everyone else who is not in PSE or publicity group spend the afternoon doin drama, music, art etc but most end up usin the time as a study period anyway cos most of the teachers just let you do what you want
6th yrs get to do pretty much whatever they on wed afternoons (work experience, yearbook, prom commitee, drama, art, 'study')
no 5th or 6th yrs get any core RE

Well ok true. All I am saying is that not all single religion schools are like that and saying they all are is in fact racist and therefore very hypocritical of you. I do accept some single religion schools are like that but it is in the minority, its the class case of letting a few bad apples spoil your opinion of the whole bag.

Hmph, I HATE answers like that, however true they may be. It is far too dismissive.

My comments have been derived from a limited, but nevertheless informed knowledge, and my thoughts provoked by this thread. Obviously, every school of this wide generalisation is not going to fit in to what I say, but alot are. It is merely speculating on the problems that can arise from such schools.

I see no racism in it.
If I were to speak in favour of them, without any grounds... would that be positive racism then? And if so, positive racism os bad also... My point being, are we not allowed to speak negatively about religious or ethnic based things because it is racist, although we can be positive...
If none of this makes sense, don't worry too much.

I have too much time on my hands, which is why I make this long, not because I particularly care that much.

Look I have to say I know a lot about other religions and yes some of those who are supposedly mature are still intolerant. I dont think just because I go to the school I do that you should say I am intolerant. All I'm saying is these types of schools may be bad but I as part of one of them am not. Ok, I take back the comment that you are racist but if you say I am not tolerant of other religions just because I go to one of those schools (its a comprehensive and not a private) then you are giving us all a stereotype and thats what racism is , thinking of others as a stereotype. I am an individual and thats that.
I dont think you should be overly positive either as there are faults in every religion but to draw upon these faults is negative. Its what some of us do to others. Like its always in the news the faults of the Muslim religion but everyone under that religion does not conform to those faults. The faults mentioned are not the faults of the religion but the faults of extremist groups within that religion. The Catholic fault is undoubtedly lack of thirst for knowledge about other religions. This fault only applies to a small group though, and usually only to those who do not go to church. In church our priest teaches us about other religions and why we should be tolerant. There are regular meetings between all the religious leaders where I live, personally I think thats great.

Clearly, these things have little to no effect on a large number of the people who are being grouped (although, noone will claim to be affected if asked). However, it's not so much that they affect a large number... rather, they affect a significant number in comparison to non-religious schools.

It's very tricky to reply to a big post consisting of a single paragraph... although, being an english admin may mean that you see it incorrect to separate the post.
Heheh, that is mere speculation... and anyway, I'm jealous that I don't have admin status... even if I in no way deserve it!

Thank you. Its good that you acknowledge that its not all of us who are biggots.
It was two paragraphs. Except I couldn't indent . You deserve to be an admin, what for I'm not sure! Clearly if there was a Higher in stimulating arguments you'd be the mod for that!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Hmph. A pretty feeble kill. All I want is to be seen to be better than everyone else... Ahahahhahahaha! *Diabolical laughter*
...and to help people... of course... heh.

Hmm. I wonder how long it takes for one to become an obselete admin...

Anyway, if I can't get yours, I shall go and poke at someone else's position. Na-na!

I liked the old system to be honest. I think I should be head mod for English but someone else should just be a standard mod and I think the same should apply to Maths, they are the two most commonly used forums

We only really do a bit of work in RE each year and the past two years (4th and 5th) the course has ended by xmas so we can study in these periods but instead we all just sit and talk lol.

PSE is great, we do nothing except when options is due and the occasional sex visitor which is always really funny cos they have no confidence and whisper any slightly dirty word so we just sit and talk and catch up on homework there aswell. PLus PSE this year was on monday p1 so I have never done homework over the week this year!

These subjects are pointless one guy in my class got his parents to say that he didn't have to do R.E. After that the whole year got a warning that nobody else could leave the class! Pathetic!
