Has anyone been interviewed for the posts of house/school captain etc. If so have you any ideas regarding the kind of stuff your teachers want to hear?
We were given sample questions ie. what qualities do you have that make you suited to this position, and what would you do around the school.
The thing is in my opinion there are only limited things that can be done around our school - the captains in previous years have made a brief appearance at the beginning of term assembly and then they are never seen/heard of again.
Any ideas and advice would be welcome biggrin.gif

at my school we become perfects from S4 and in S6 we have house caption (male/female), deputy house captions(male/female) and head boy, head girl and last year for the first time 2 sets of deputy head boy and girl

However, this year we have a new headteacher and a new vertical guidence system o i don't know how things will go this year yet i still think the posts are votes for by the teachers which actually is a system i prefer basically because it gives me a betters chance of getting a post!!

If i am not here i am somewhere else

I have now finished with skool after 6th year last year....prefects were in 5th but mostly 6th year.....the school captain and vice captain are chosed from the prefects, about 20 ppl.....I was prefect in 5th year and Vice Captain in 6th year.

Prefects do a lot of jobs....eg attend parents nites to escort parents.... A LOT of charity work...(last year as Vice Captain, I personally raised £1000 of £10000 which the prefects raised to go towards a day care centre in Nepal).... Organise school fundays.... organise discos..... decorate school at halloween, christmas etc.... go on skool trips as a helper with younger ones...and last but not least - organise the whole of the Leavers dance, the best job!

So take these jobs into consideration and try and expand on it.....think of events which would raise a lot of money for charity or even the skool fund, think of ideas of ways to get other pupils motivated in school, think of ways of improving the skool, say how u would keep in touch with your prefects if you were captain/v.captain (eg we had meetings every week), how would u keep track of meetings and events discussed (minutes etc), how would u let yourself and other prefects be known in your school community (we assigned prefects to every regi class and visited them at least 2wice in one week to get any ideas off them or collect charity donations when events were runnin or to sell tickets for shows)

Hope I have said enuf here! Try and be as imaginative, confident and motivated as u can and u will be Captain before u know it!

ps Qualities are simple....organised, confident, imaginative, easily motivated, very enthusiastic, good decision maker, focussed, good team leader, enjoy workin in a team......the list goes on!!

Shandogg

GOOD LUCK, let me know how u get on !

PPS I just edited my post cos I said I raised £1000 of £1000 and it was of £10000!

Yeah I have to agree with what Shandogg has to say. I went in for it last year at my school (I've left now). We didn't have an interview but had to stand up in front of the 5th/6th and give a short presentation on why we should be school captain. I never got it although we're still trying to figure out how our female school captain got the post, because no one in 6th year voted for her. Definately be a good listener and take all ideas into consideration.

Good luck, though you won't need it biggrin.gif

I'm head boy at my school biggrin.gif - Just seem really enthusiastic - draw attention to what has been achieved but then hit them with, however the school should always be looking to improve and as Head Boy/Girl I would look to improve the following ....

Thanks for everyone's ideas! Well I had my interview this morning but I am not too confident about it. I knew what I was talking about and the questions weren't too bad but the main interviewer was very intimidating and I felt under a lot of pressure unsure.gif
But hey at least I tried and you can only do your best after all.
Has anyone else got interviews coming up?

Last year, I organised charity events for Child Welfare Scheme Nepal, who are very enthusiastic to build day care centres in Nepal, My skool (Ross hall Academy in Southside of Glasgow) raised enuf money to build and staff a Day Care Health Centre and we have named it Ross hall, its a very achievable goal and gets the whole skool involved.

We also have an annual non uniform day for Children In Need, usually raisin around £1200 as its a very popular event.

What about helpin your local community....My skool have a Christmas Parcel for Eldery event every xmas, the whole skool bring in non-perishable food and we write to local businesses and shops to donate presents and then make up bags of pressies and deliver them to eldery and large families suggested by local churches

hope I helped!

Our school captains get voted for by the pupils but really the teachers get the final say.

I was running for school captain, but I really doubt I get it seeing as I don't suck up enough to teachers and that no one actually knows who I am. But it's cool! I stood in registration this morning and bellowed, "VOTE LINDSAY! You get my couches from my living room if you do! Go on!" And everyone just looked at me like I was a nugget.

I'm seeing the son of an English teacher at our school, so I've made John tell his mum that I'm great and that she had to vote for me. tongue.gif So I have one teacher vote! Which is good!

Mark, that's Sparky to you, is going for it too. He'll probably get it though. Damn him! I REALLY WANT IT! I'VE NEVER WON ANYTHING BEFORE!!!

All our captain does is wear a badge and make a speach at the prizegiving. How great is that?!

I'd even settle for vice captain you know.

Ok, I'll shut up now.

Thanks for the confidence in my abilities Lindsay! Unfortunately I didn't get Captain nor Vice-Captain, huh.gif, it would have been nice, although the speech wouldn't have been, I took big enough beamers doing solo talks in SG English! lol
But I did get Dux tongue.gif so I can't win everything.

I am going to run for House Captain now I think (are you Lindsay?).

You haven't won anything yet tho Lindsay! wink.gif But you do have a good job I suppose laugh.gif , getting to write about Two Can Dan...who is the vice captain tongue.gif

OMG I would have loved the speech. I have it planned. *clears throat*

"YOLTUS TROOPS! Aye. Whatever. Hello. I've been asked to do the vote of thanks and so thought I would appeal to you the good people of Airdrie by speaking in your native tongue, but one cannot do such a thing for long periods of time as it hurts my head after a while.

"So, as I was saying. Vote of thanks. First I'd like to thank my mum and my dad, they're up there. HI MUM. I don't know why I'm thanking them, it's just what they do at the Oscars. And naturally Mr McCallum, or SHUG as I like to call him, for having the most comically huge feet in the world. And thank you people sitting behind me, I've never met you before, but thanks anyway. Have some flowers.

"Thanks very much and goodnight! I'LL BE HERE ALL WEEK!"

End of. Easy peasy.

I am going for House Captain. Cleddans NEED me. They really do. I'd be great at it. I'd do nothing. It would be fantastic.

I did win a Blue Peter badge once, though, Mark. Does that count?

Two Can Dan was a stroke of genius on Paul's part, I had to steal it. tongue.gif Or is it steel? Call myself a writer too. Oops!

So you did at primary school! lol U should wear that 2 school Lindsay!

I am going for Monklands House Captain I think, I missed the meeting for it because of an Open Day tho! lol Paul's running for it too, so the competition will be high! (He well won the pupil vote for School Captain I reckon!)

It's just really a battle to get a badge, cos they actually do very little at our school. Whether you be a School Captain, House Captain, Vice House Captain or Prefect!

Do you not think I should have got a badge for getting the dux?

I think the Dux used to get a badge. I'm not sure though.

I'm still a prefect, so I suppose that'll have to do me. sad.gif I might just say to Mrs Baird, "Seeing as you spilled the beans about me and John to his mother, the least you can do is give me house captain as a 'sorry' present. You nosey woman."

I really don't think that'd work though.

I am stunned that Paul didn't even get vice. =/ I mean, EVERYONE in his class voted for him. He checked.

I can't believe that the teacher vote counts for more, though. It isn't fair. I don't see the point in making us vote if it isn't worth anything.

Ah, well. It's done now.

I may go polish my prefect badge now.
