For those of you that are studying higher psychology this year, do you know of any good resources/revision materials?
Our teacher told us that the 'new' higher was commencing this year so I am wondering whether it will be much different to that of previous years - in which case the material I already have may be missing out/giving info which i do/don't need.

Hello people. I dont do Higher Psychology but hopefully I'm gonna do it in first year in Uni. Firstly some advice for u:

If u go to ur nearest large WH Smith store then beside the past papers (well that where they are in Hamilton and Glasgow Argyle Street anyway!) there should be a higher psychology textbook for the new higher, I suggest u check this out!

Secondly some questions:

Is Psychology interesting?
Is it easy/difficult?
Where can I do free courses in it( if you know any of course)?
Do u have to write huge dissertations and stuff?
Any other details provided would be helpful also

I was told to get an AS level textbook as there aren't many Higher ones apparently. A-level ones have too much detail apparently. Ask in Waterstones or another book shop, they should be able to help.

Is Psychology interesting?

Yes - I find it extremely interesting and I'm enjoying the course so far. Basically if you're interested in thought processes and what makes people act the way they do, it's a good course, and will help you gain a deeper understanding of people.

QUOTE
Is it easy/difficult?

I'm finding it pretty easy so far. We're just reading through our notes in our own time, and making our own notes from those.

QUOTE
Where can I do free courses in it( if you know any of course)?

I'm doing mine through Open Learning from Telford College - I'm not sure whether the school had to pay anything for this.

Nope - or at least I hope not ohmy.gif

Our first assignment is worth 15 marks.

Hope this helps - if you want any more details, feel free to PM or post on this thread and I'll try and help.

Psychology isn't really hard it's just that there's loads and loads of stuff to learn, for the Higher anyway! Your local colleges probably have some classes running maybe in the evenings or for a few weeks if you want a taster. We're doing the mental illnesses part of the course just now which I find quite interesting but the social psychology is good too... it teaches you how to make psychology work for you smile.gif

I'm not sure if i really like the subject, so far we've done some developmental stuff and cognitive psychology but I don't find it all that interesting. To be honest it seems a bit 'airy fairy' although ppl that studied it last year assure me that it gets better, does any1 else agree?

Same here, the old Higher was titled Approaches in Psychology though.

The book I've got is called Introductory Psychology, it's by Tony malim (I think).

I'm doing higher psychology this year and I find the subject very interseting but full of alot of general knowledge. The lecturer who is teaching our class claims the has one of the highest pass rates in Scotland, however i find the hand out of his notes very confusing as the jump around the whole topic, yet his presentation is very organised. I'm only on Early Socialisation and we've completed the notes on Memory, but can anyone recommend suitable notes on the internet which would clarify higher psychology for me?

Try this link: www.sparknotes.com/psychology
It gives you some notes on some major units of Higher Psychology.

I mainly used the hand-outs I was given and re-wrote my own notes based on the hand-outs. I also made flash cards with key words and their definitions ie socialisation + definition.

Don't fret, Psychology is easy to pass if you just learn all the theories and a study for each one! I got a top B pass this year smile.gif
