Does anyone recommend getting a part time job while at uni? If so, what kind of job will fit around the course without using up all my spare time? I don't care whether it pays that much, it'll just be a little nice to have some pocket change.

Universities themselves don't tend to encourage part-time jobs but I think it's good to get something on your CV. I don't think I could get a job related to physics though. rolleyes.gif
I'd like an art/design job. I'm good at that.

I don't know if engineering companies would take you on with a physics degree, but some like Laing O Rourke and so on will take you for paid summer placements + job guaranteed provided you graduate with a 2:1. Then again it's not part time work, but you still get the name and all.

There's always retail. Cheap labour for a fairly low wage. But it's easy work.

A summer placement would be nice. As for a part time job there's nothing wrong with retail. I have to decide soon though, I guess. Or maybe weekends at a local callcentre?

What's the average pay?

I'd kill for a job like that actually. A job that pays good money.

I worked in a wee art shop in Edinburgh for my work experience and they gave me work in the craft side of things - paying me to make their cards for them - birthday cards, chrsitmas cards etc.

I ended up doing it for a few different shops and made a wee bit of money out of it. I did it more when I was 15/16 and had a lot of time on my hands but I enjoyed it smile.gif

Wow, I'd love to do that! Working at an art shop. Care to give me names or anything? biggrin.gif
What sort of stuff did you have to do to make them hire you though? Samples and such?
