Put it against a wall so you can't see it.

My lecturers swear by them because they are only world experts in the field of computer science. The 2nd year laboratory is kitted out with imacs (with UNIX for systems programming in C) The most advanced things we cover are done on Macs because when it comes to development, they are just about the best you can get. PC's running Windows are generally fine, but havejust a few annoying things, which for me make the MAC slightly better. There are far too many flaws with security and cryptic error messages which are completely usesless to bog standard users. Command prompt doesnt follow UNIX convention, so we need to know two versions of the same command, which is a pain, cos we need a SSH client on our first year lab machines (running Windows XP proffesional) in order to do simple networking tests satisfactorily (can be done on command prompt, but results generally not as reliable). It is true that macs are simpler to use, but that is not a bad thing at all. And having multilple processors is a good thing, because threads programming becomes a bit easier smile.gif .

Windows does have its good points but for me, my laptop is Windows it. But for the purposes of my degree, MACs are better suited to what I need to do with computers.
Yes AVG is very good, would recommend it.

Theres some of them on the main computer, it never really helped. I guess its worth a try, ours was just a sort of silver hose pipe thing. Didn't look very pretty.

I have another idea. Large pot plant. Just be careful when watering.

ah well see once upon a time there Mac's which were computers that used motorola/ IBM PowerPC processors , so completely different from all the other manufacters aka PC manufacters. but now they are using or in the process of changing to intel Duo's.

This means a PC and a Mac are essentially at a instruction set level identical. The different with buying a computer by Apple MacIntosh is they ship there computers with there own operating system which is a lot better than Windows(also a lot different in terms of the way you use it as a user). Macs are also known for quality a concept alien to a lot PC makers.

If i am not here i am somewhere else

i take it you play alot of games with your G15, razer copperhead and exactmat ...

or is it just for the looks...

Diamondback > Copperhead tongue.gif

p.s i would personally buy a mac,but not alot of games etc can be played on them, unless its changed. You have got to admit they do look 100X times better than any PC, and i cant comment on the operating system as ive never used on properly... however it cant be worse than winxp which looks as if a 2 year old has been let loose with some crayons sad.gif.

Only our first year lab and the postgraduate IT lab run solely on Windows XP. The second year lab is MACS, 3rd year use dual boot windows/linux machines and 4th year is a mix of everything. UNIX is incorporated into all of the labs (except the IT one tongue.gif ) And we have a brand new shiny building smile.gif

St Andrews is great, only problem is that the practicals are bloody hard! sad.gif

Generally though I think most ppl are opposed to MACS because of the different OS system, dont want to spend time getting used to it. And the thing about Windows running on MACS...

It defeats the purpose of buying a MAC in the first place!

very true! tongue.gif

My computer:

P4 3.2GHz w/HyperThreading (oh AMD, how I long for you)
1024MB RAM
GeForce FX5200 256MB (le sigh, a little old)
16x DVD, 4x DVD RW
320GB HDD (they always say, "how will you ever use that up", but believe me - once you've got it, you use it.)
