Shame more didn;t come from like normay and finland and stuff some of theirs is much cool.
Apparently in Norway it is tradition to solve murder cases at Easter. So they have, like, every episode of Poirot ever made being shown.

Wrong.
The idea of eggs originates (surprise, surprise!) from a pagan festival called "Eostremonat". It was said that a chicken was turned into a rabbit by a god/witch/whatever but that this rabbit still had the ability to lay eggs - the "Osterhase" or Easter Hare.
Once again, the unimaginative Christians couldn't be arsed thinking up their own festivals, so they just hijacked this pagan festival for their own ends. Much like Christmas, All-Saints Day etc.
So thar ye go - a cynical ploy by missionaries to increase the number of pagans who converted to Christianity.

It's Tompta who comes. At least in Sweden it is. And he comes on Christmas eve so you get all your presents then. Whcih is good for me because I get to open the Swedish presents the night before the rest and we have a Swedish Christmas meal then too.
Some Easters mum put up little witch Swedish witch decorations but I'm not very sure whether she just had the decorations muddled up.

The fact is, like all other Christian festivals, they just stole the pagan ones and used them to celebrate Christianity. Like, duh.
I'm trying to decide which is more believable...a bunny laying eggs or Jesus, our "lord" rising from the dead. I'll go with the bunny any day

QUOTE(Western Folklore (1947))
The egg idea goes back before Christianity and Easter. When the ancient Egyptian got home from an all-night session of whatever they played, he buffered the return by presenting wifey with an egg.
In the pagan world the egg was considered the symbol of new life and resurrection. The Hebrews used it as a religious symbol during the feast of Passover.

QUOTE(American Sociological Review (1949))
In spite of the fact that the word 'Easter' is derived from the name of an Anglo-Saxon goddess, called Eostre or Ostara, the season and festival of this name are undoubtedly organized about its Christian significance.
QUOTE(The Journal of American Folklore (1967))
...the egg too became a symbol of resurrection. As such it was taken by the Church and incorporated into the ritual of Easter...

QUOTE(That site)
Don't be so narrow-minded as to think that anything that is not Christ is bad. You are starting to sound like a Mormon talking about Mormonism.
Quality banter right there.
