Happy Easter everyone! smile.gif Hope the Easter bunny is good to you lol!
(I'm working in the morning though - isn't much of a celebration! Who in their right mind wants to go clothes shopping on Easter Sunday, anyway?!)
"...You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise....
Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise."

Wrong.

The idea of eggs originates (surprise, surprise!) from a pagan festival called "Eostremonat". It was said that a chicken was turned into a rabbit by a god/witch/whatever but that this rabbit still had the ability to lay eggs - the "Osterhase" or Easter Hare.

Once again, the unimaginative Christians couldn't be arsed thinking up their own festivals, so they just hijacked this pagan festival for their own ends. Much like Christmas, All-Saints Day etc.

So thar ye go - a cynical ploy by missionaries to increase the number of pagans who converted to Christianity.
