Maths - 92%
Physics - 95%
Chemistry - 90%
English - 66%
Music - 71%

I was delighted with the results in my sciences. I would have been happy with my English mark, but the way my essays/close readings were handed back made me think I was going to get a better mark (I'd got good marks in the stuff I thought I'd done badly in, but a terrible mark in the one part I thought I'd done well) - but I was expecting no higher than a C in English so I was pleased. Music could have been better, but I done no revising/practicing whatsoever (I thought that revision for other subjects was more important) - I'm sure I could do better in the final exam.

Hoping for 5 As in the finals.

I've got most of my results back now:

Maths (Higher): A - 72% (I got 12% for this in the prelim last year so I'm very pleased to have acheived an A. Also, my teacher left school halfway through Unit 2 and the class was given a substitute teacher who was only qualified to teach GCSE mathematics. We had her for 3 weeks before we got a suitable teacher - by this time we were far behind and had little time to prepare for the prelim).

Admin (Higher): B - 68% (Didn't do any work towards this whatsoever so I should manage to get an A in the final exam if I just do a bit of revision).

Music (Higher): (Haven't done all of the components yet but am around A/B level after the listening and midi sequencing papers).

I got my english mark changed, apparently I was marked too harshly on one of my essays so I got put up to 17.5/25, enough to bring me up to 70/100 and (just) give me an overall A for english biggrin.gif

Thanks. I do classical guitar as my first study and bass as my second study. I didn't realise we had to do a prelim for our second study though until the day before we sat the exam, so I ended up with an awful mark on bass.
I read your other post, congratulations on your results you seem to have done especially well in maths considering the cirumstances. I noticed you said that you had a MIDI sequencing component for your music exam...is this your optional element? It sounds alot more interesting than what I'm doing. Also, what instrument do you play?

Well done to everyone on their results. There are some really good marks on here.

Yes, midi sequencing is my optional element. Here's a basic outline of what it involves, if you're interested:
  • A written paper of about twelve questions concerning the use of the compositional program Notator Logic aswell as some general questions about MIDI.
  • A pre-written invention in Logic that the candidate must edit, for example, change tempo, pan an instrument to a different speaker, change volume settings etc.
  • Submission of a 3-minute invention written in Logic that demonstrates use of MIDI sequencing techniques (like the ones mentioned above).
There's quite a lot to it on top of the other elements in higher music but I quite enjoy it. I'm the only candidate doing it this year in my school and there was only one person who chose it last year (the first year it was offered).

I play three instruments: Bass, Guitar and Piano. This year I will be playing bass for my performing exam.

Cool, sounds interesting. We weren't offered that at our school, although a couple of the computers do have stuff like Cubase which I think can do this kind of thing. I wish I'd known about this sooner, I might have been able to ask if I could do it. Anyway, good luck with that.

I'm sorry that you feel like that, but is it not worth staying to at least continue the subjects that you did pass? What were they?

I did no better than you did in my fifth year prelims but then came back to get all A/B's in the final exams. It is not long until the end of the year, why leave now without any qualifications? Would it not be better to at least sit it out until the end of the year and pass whatever exams that you can. The prelims are often considered more difficult than the final exams, and I would agree with this in the case of most subjects.
