think mine went tits up! non calculator was really tricky and i thought i done ok in the calculator paper until i came out. The top class found it difficult so i think i might have just been living in the "iggnorance is bliss" world again

Mine is tomorrow. My maths teacher told us that it is "hell on earth" and "would make us want to cry". I think those were his evil days, he has days when he seems to enjoy making people cry and then days when he wonders what we're all so scared about maths exams for.
Anyway, back to revision.

I *think* the general guidelines are 50-60% = C, 60-70% = B and more than 70% = A. It seems a kind of silly way for things to work to me, but that's how we got told to look at them.

Anyway, I done well in my prelim, I got 55/60 in paper one and 65/70 in paper two.

I found out my results I failed I got 39% overall. In fact my whole class failed (great teacher we must have eh)! Our percentages were ranging from some getting 10%, the rest gaining between 25% - 35%. I was actually the highest score in my class which I find very odd because I'm bad at maths and some of them did the course last year and were back again whereas this is my first time I came from Intermediate 2. I'm quite disappointed to be honest I've never failed any exam and I was hoping 6th year I could continue to do that. I think people are disappointed in me too.. my dad thought I was joking when I said I failed. Our teacher says we aren't doing a prelim later for unit 3 because it wouldn't help as an appeal anyway as we all did so bad. He didn;'t even go over the paper which I wasn't happy with as him showing us how we should have done questions would be quite helpful I think.

oh well sat both and...34/60 + 15/70. Overall a fail, I thought doing Int 2 last year would have prepared me for higher, but only 4 people in the class sat int 2 last year, plus 2 fifth years in our class, and ofcourse its the people who sat higher last year were the ones passing the prelim

View Post

You got about the same as me and we both went from Int2. I think it's quite a lot harder most people from 5th year in my school from standard grade seem to be doing better than us 6th years.

Ignore what other people think, they didn't have to sit the exam. It's difficult being in a class where the teacher expects everyone to fail. Regardless of whether or not a teacher believes there is hope for the majority of a class passing an exam it is still their job to help those who want to learn. You should ask for the answers to the prelim if you feel they will be useful, your teacher shouldn't deny you that.

My prelim was hard. It was our maths teacher that changed all the questions so there was only very hard one in it so I'm not talking to him. Maths was really quite amusing today, there was only 8 of us in(study leave), 3 of us were ignoring the teacher.

No one in my school does standard grades at all. We all do intermediates because the teachers say it leads into higher better. But we did start the higher course christmas last year.
It's not fair if your teacher won't go over it or even say where you went wrong. Or doing the other prelim. It may be time to have a word with another maths teacher (who likes you) if you feel strongly about it.

You should complain to a higher authority about your maths teacher, this is simply not what being a teacher is about.

ive got mine tomorrow. failed english badly today. but that aint the point. our teacher aint really spoke about it, just told us that we better be prepared for it and gave us last years to practise on. i practised last years so much that when i went to sit my nab last week i was totally unprepared becuase i was looking for tricks in the questions lol. so after reading what your all saying im expecting the worst sad.gif i can do the work in class ( after coming from standard grade last year its a big jump in work rate and work load ) but when it comes to remembering what we done 1/2/3 months ago i find it hard becuase we are doing so much so quickly. oh well better go revise . wish me luck smile.gif

The freakiness! That's what I got as well! O.o; The calculator paper was a git. Hope I can scrape an A in the main exam, though.

I did mine today and I'm in exactly the same situation!

I worked through the revision stuff/past papers they gave us but the prelim was bloody impossible.

Apparently I'm an A-grade candidate so I'm really dissapointed about today - I'm not confident about that prelim at all. Certainly not looking forward to hearing my result.. sad.gif
