anyone have to do "the inheritors" by william golding? it's actually the worst book you could pick, plus there's no internet notes or study guides for it and we have an incompetent teacher. fantastic!

I'm doing The Great Gatsby (which I have come to utterly despise), The Crucible (which is quite good) and our teacher said we would do some Scottish poems, maybe compare a Burns with a more modern writer.
My personal study was Popular Music by Mikeal Niemi.

Last year I did a vast multitude of poems. This year I have dnone Unto Us... very simplistic, and My Last Duchess, which is an okay poem for the exam.

PERSONAL STUDY
Last year - Hamlet
This Year - Othello

Both top notch, although it took me longer to take to Othello.

NOVEL
Last year - Great Gatsby
This year - Cone Gatherers

Both are... interesting. I disliked the number of characters in the great gatsby. Jordan & Tom's mistress overcomplicated things for me, aswell as Myrtle and her husband. The cone gatherers I've just read for the first time... seems alright. Alot more approachable than the Great Gatsby.

PLAY
Last year - Death of a Salesman
This year - Romeo and Juliet

DoaS is boring. I'm glad I studied it, just because it is good to know such classics, but it lacks a certain appeal that makes it something interesting to write about. There seems to be alot of opinion on it, but I think more people think it sucks. R&J is great... and it means I've completed my quest to study each classic Shakespeare play. Classic = the most well known ones in my opinion - MacBeth, Hamlet, Othello, R&J, a Midsummer Nights Dream (which is the one I haven't studied... I rejected it due to its' simplicity, opting for othello instead.) I'm loving the freedom and adaptability of R&J.
Signatures suck. They clog up websites and serve no purpose.

Yes, I'm doing 'The Inheritors' this year! I honestly thought we'd be practically the only class in Scotland doing it, as it's such a random book! Not exactly your average Shakespeare or John Steinbeck... When I first read it I hated it because I didn't understand it at all but once my teacher had gone over it, it actually made a lot of sense. I agree that it's annoying that there's nothing about it on the internet though!

I did 'The Great Gatsby' as my Personal Study. It's a good book for that as there's so much in it to write about.

We're doing 'Death of a Salesmen' as our play and I really dislike it so far. It's really, really boring and seems to be going absolutely nowhere. The characters are rubbish as well!

As for poetry, I find it amazing that some people have only studied 2 or 3 poems. Just goes to show that my teacher is giving us an unneccessary amount... we've literally done about 10 and she said there's a chance we might study more as well! blink.gif
