The one thing about the exam which really bothered me was the question that asked you to work out a condition for the discounts. I thought that it should have been worth less marks and it should have been placed in an optional paper, it shouldn't have been made mandetory, at least in my opinion.

(or you could have used a nested If, (higher) )

IF (miles%>750) THEN
Bill:= Bill - (billx0.15)
Would I get anything for that, at all... anything?

I tried nested if, and this is ALL I wrote for this question: IF (miles%>750) THEN Bill:= Bill - (billx0.15) Would I get anything for that, at all... anything? ![]() |
I think u just gave him a 85% discount not a 15 % discount

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

I used CASE
CASE discount_of
15% when miles_travelled >750
10% when miles_travelled >= 501 AND <= 750
5% when miles_travelled >= 251 AND <=500
0% when miles_travelled <=250
END CASE
I am pretty confident in that response.

I just kept it simple; since it was design notation, not actual code.

I disagree, a CASE function is Standard Grade knowledge. (or you could have used a nested If, (higher) ) |
I was never taught the CASE statement at Standard Grade.

We done it as part of our practical programming assessments.
We were certainly made aware it could come up in our higher when we done the Software development unit. Nested IF (higher concept) should have came in handy!

It was quite a fine exam, everyone left early at my school. I left half an hour early. But the most intelligent guy left an hour early.

Daft, I reckon you're given 2 and a half hours for a reason to be honest. |
Yeah, agreed. I don't see the point in leaving early. I like to use all my time to check over my answers and stuff.
Some guy in my class left the Chemistry exam after half an hour

Half an hour! Was he really good at Chemistry or did he just not care?

It is impossible to do the paper in 30 minutes to achieve a decent mark.

assuming the person who left with an hour to spare did the same i don't see how its possible to write in essence extended to ensure the full marks for the question.
certainly on the computing SG exam i had an hour to spare by the end but then you could get away with a lot more than in higher so if he does well he's either really lucky or has the fastest hand and brain in Scotland. (make up your own mind)
