Well, today as a "prelim" we sat a close reading which was, to cut it short, two passages about Concorde. While being billed by the department that it was a full-blown prelim, I had a sneaky inclination that the passages they gave were not true close reading tests, based on the Past Papers, but NABS: not least for the fact that it had the "SQA:(then numbers)" thing at the bottom which is common to NABS in other subjects. I would just like if possible for someone to confirm if there is indeed a NAB about Concorde.

Although that's not to say I found it easy or anything, merely that I noticed that it didn't resemble the other tests, by that I mean Past Papers, I had done.

thanks,

Jon.

I did a paper about Concorde for Higher English. I think it was a NAB but I'm not sure.

why would it be a problem if it was a NAB? Are the close readings not all of the same sort of standard for NABS and exams?

Hi,

I thought that, as with other subjects, the NAB's only contained "C" level questions. I could be wrong though, I'm not to sure about how it works for English-- just presumed it was the same :S

I think someone said a while back that it was different for English; that questions aren't supposed to be any easier for NABs or marked any less harshly.

Im sure Close Reading NABS are marked out of 30.. whilst in actual exam papers.. it's marked out of 50.

We just sat a surprise close reading NAB the other day.

Actually, I remember (don't know how!) a friend saying that he sat a prelim about concordes at his school. This was when I was sitting Higher English aswell, which was two years ago...

This IS a NAB - if anything has the SQA footer with 'National Assessment Bank' and a number then it is a NAB. I sat this for my prelim and it is called 'Tragic Beauty' about Concorde. This can also be found on the SQA's website: see bottom of reply.

NABs are usually out of 30 marks but the SQA decided to create ones more like the final exam out of 50 marks. A lot of schools use it to save money - they do not have to pay for NABs, they simply download it from SQA secure website unlike having to purchase from commercial groups like P&N or Perfect Papers. Hope this answers your question.
