Hi i would appreciate any help. Thanks

A ferris wheel rotates in a verticle plain about a horozontal axis. (all mass concentrated at outside)

MOI of epty wheel. = 8.8*10^5 kgm^2
Passenger mass per chair = 200 kg
No. of chairs = 16.
radius of wheel = 10m

**There were other parts to the quesiton but i can't do e)**

e) Calculate the maximum and minimum force acting on a 50kg passenger when the wheel is kept rotating at its maximum speed.

I would have thought it was the same because the central force would be constant but apparently not blink.gif

hi

the centripetal force is constant, but the resultant force changes. the resultant force acting on a person sitting in a chair at the top is given by T = centripetal force + weight whereas the resultant force at the bottom is the central force minus the weight..... cant be bothered doing the calculation just now but i hope that helped anyway
