Im studying Accountancy. Ive been annoyed lately cos quite a lot of my friends are going to study medicine and the totally slag of caledonian sayin that it aint a proper university. i get offended at that. I had offers for Glasgow and Edinburgh etc but i liked Caledonian the best - whats wrong wif that?

a lot of their graduates have a hard time getting jobs at the end of it, because they're competing with graduates from more respected unis. its because it's only become a uni fairly recently, before that it was just a college, so it doesn't rate too highly. on the other hand though, its very well respected when it comes to the health related professions
when i'm dancin' with you,
tomorrow doesn't matter,
turn that music up,
till the windows start to shatter,
cos you're the only one who can get me on my feet,
& i can't even dance

Well its better than Paisley anyway and I know a lot of people graduated from Strathclyde who can't get a job some of them can't even get placements. I find jobs are all about the person an employer would have to be very naive to not employ someone just because of the university they graduated from.

The degree I am doing is better than the one at strathclyde because I am doing a placement which strathclyde does not do hence employers are going to look at someone who has had a year work experience than someone who has not.

Hey

Im just glad that not everyone thinks that Caledonain is rubbish. I think of it like this - I want to graduate with a first class degree in accountancy whether it be from cally, dundee or strathclyde. At the end of the day a degree is a degree and work experience, personality etc should be more of an indicator whether you're up to the job than just whether you have graduated from a uni which is meant to be so brilliant.

My friend is going there to study Optometry as it's the only uni nearby which offers it as a course.

The thing Caley has going for it, is a modern and fresher looking campus. It's all close knit like it's own wee village! tongue.gif

Strathclyde uni has a lot of things going on (www.strathstudents.com) It's a really filled week day & night. I haven't yet decided what I'm going too. There's a casino night and 2 of S Club 7 are there one night! There's an oasis tribute band as well I think! :-/ Probably see more things in the thread about our Fresher's week! smile.gif
