Personally, the idea of a controlled economy doesn't turn me on, but everyone's different, neh.

Planned economy

Hitler had a pretty heavily planned economy, but it was under private ownership...the three basic catagorisations are so worthless.
And he did give some explanation, he said (almost straight from my notes) "Marx hadn't appreciated the malleability of capitalism... he never thought we would have laws and rules to organise monopolists or that society could be organised enough to produce health or welfare systems"
Hehe, its quite a common criticism brought to bear against Marx. I guess a Marxist would respond by pointing out that these changes (health, welfare, etc) were brought about by pressure from the political left and fear that if capitalism was to survive, these state provisions were necessary to avoid a revolutionary proletariat.
And hence the capitalists just moved the exploitation to the third world.
