Personally, the idea of a controlled economy doesn't turn me on, but everyone's different, neh.

Ack. Ack ack ack. They don't teach you that do they? sad.gif

Planned economy notequal.gif socialist economy.

Hitler had a pretty heavily planned economy, but it was under private ownership...the three basic catagorisations are so worthless.

And he did give some explanation, he said (almost straight from my notes) "Marx hadn't appreciated the malleability of capitalism... he never thought we would have laws and rules to organise monopolists or that society could be organised enough to produce health or welfare systems"

Hehe, its quite a common criticism brought to bear against Marx. I guess a Marxist would respond by pointing out that these changes (health, welfare, etc) were brought about by pressure from the political left and fear that if capitalism was to survive, these state provisions were necessary to avoid a revolutionary proletariat.

And hence the capitalists just moved the exploitation to the third world.

I AM ANNOYED.

That's two laptops that I've ordered which have delivery dates that keep getting set back even though I was guaranteed to have them delivered on time. I NEED A LAPTOP FOR THIS STUPID MDP CLASS.

I am going to cancel them both and order this little beast instead.

It's cute. It will make me happy.

Well, are we talking in general here or like, John Lennon vs Adam Smith? Or Lennon vs Marx? Or Lennon vs Malthus? No, wait, Lennon beats Malthus easy, 'cause Malthus was just plain wrong.

I don't want a 17" laptop though.

I want the tiniest, lightest one that I can get.

Sadly, the lightest one I could find (Latitude X1) has sat in "pre-production" for AGES so I really don't think I'm going to get it.

And the retailers of the reasonably priced tiny Acer have screwed me around so I REALLY don't want to give them any of my money.

So the Vaio is cute. And I am superficial. It will make me happy.

I didnt say you wanted a 17" laptop, i was just stating what you could get for your money.

But i seriously suggest you check out the site, as you will get a better deal with them than with Ebuyer.

I completly agree with the Malthus bit, but which one would win in a fight do you think? I think Lennon because he wasn't a priest/reverend and less posh.

But the other 2 would be very hard to pick, so not in general, just all famous classical economists Vs John Lennon
Which is better?

Oh and tuppence, john and Jamie, don't go off topic like that!

But he was a peacenik...they'd probably trade insults for a while and then Malthus would run off crying.

All the classical economists...gotta be. Though John Lennon is an infinitely better user of the english language.
