Why do you always assume that when I'm not online, you're blocked? dry.gif

For the record, you were away when I checked. Therefore, I saw no point appearing online. tongue.gif

Oh my God.

He was standing at the opposite side of the road, at the lights, to cross. And looked right at me. I waved. He ignored me.

HOW RUDE.

I hate him. I swear to God, I've never come across anyone as immature and ridiculous in all my life.

Today at about half past two (during a economic thought and method lecture), I decided to become a communist, firstly it looks almost fun and interesting and secondly it almost makes sense.

And I don't mean Russian communism or half hearted Chinese communism. Proper Marxist stuff.

Oh and on a side note, its surprising how many economists were born Jews.

Hehe - don't worry, I was expecting a but. One of my mates does the course...apparently they were teaching you that Marx turned out to be wrong in the end (or didn't live long enough to see that capitalism stabilised)? Marxism goes beyond the point at which Marx died!

Lenin and Trotsky were both massive contributors to Marxist theory - especially Lenin's explanation of how wages stabilised around the turn of the century (although we did see wages forced down again during the Great Depression) through the exploitation of resources and labour in less developed nations, ie. imperialism. We see it nearly every day - "made in China", "made in Thailand", "made in Cambodia" etc.

I recommend you do some reading of Lenin on imperialism before you give up with Marxism. sad.gif

Oh, by the way, did they try to give any reasonable explanation for why Marx "got it wrong" or did they just say "oh well, history proved otherwise"?

It's great to see my fellow economists putting so much thought into something most people wouldn't give a crap about. tongue.gif

Personally, the idea of a controlled economy doesn't turn me on, but everyone's different, neh.

I might just do that, I was thinking about concentrating on Marxism anyway for either the essay or part of the exam.

And he did give some explanation, he said (almost straight from my notes) "Marx hadn't appreciated the malleability of capitalism... he never thought we would have laws and rules to organise monopolists or that society could be organised enough to produce health or welfare systems"

But he didnt say much about it, so mostly just "history proved otherwise".
