A group linked to Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the attacks:

These attacks are absolutely shocking. I heard an eye witness account from a man and I was nearly crying. About how people were screaming and praying, and smashing the windows for more oxygen.

Tony Blairs and George Bush's speeches were excellent.

Seems Buchanan Street and Argyle Street were closed off.

Whats Glasgow got - a piss underground system that could be blown up easily, two major train stations, a big bus station, big CBD shopping centre - all easy targets...

My bf's aunt stays in London and thankfully her and her family are all fine.

The picture of the bus is terrible, hardly recognisable.

Usually when things like this happen it's thousands of miles away, not this time though, this is in our island. It is really scary stuff.

I heard that the Hilton in glasgow was evacuated, however i have also heard that there was no unusual activities either. There's always false reports.

Just heard someone on the radio before I came out saying that 4 explosions have been confirmed, two people confirmed dead, and that a terrorist group, which was previously unknown, has admitted to the attacks.

Tony Blair (and various other political commentators) think it was timed to co-inside with the G8. Also heard that they bombed London because of the Olympics. Cos of press attention. Don't know if its true - everything I've heard on the radio has just been speculation.

It was reported by some Italian newsgroup that a terrorist group working for al-queda in Europe had admitted to it. And I think that Charles Clark also said it was a terrorist attack.

Ok, that was slightly disjointed - apologies.

I hope that if any of you have friends, family etc that they are ok.
Oh weep for Adonais—he is dead!
Wake, melancholy Mother, wake and weep!
Yet wherefore? Quench within their burning bed
Thy fiery tears, and let thy loud heart keep,
Like his, a mute and uncomplaining sleep;

And the figures may well rise further. sad.gif

Edit: The figure used in that article has been cut down to 33 dead, which is better than 45 I guess. rolleyes.gif

Edit 2: "Brian Paddick, deputy assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said seven people were killed on an underground train near Moorgate station, 21 were confirmed dead near Liverpool Street subway station and five died at Edgware Road." (Reuters)

of course there has always been a threat. But you have to admit that the government at times over exaggerate this, just to scare us. Then you have the people who say that 'we aren't ready for a terrorist attack'. It just makes people feel further insecure and paranoid.

Dumbass terrorists.

They did it for the `massacres in Iraq and Afganistan,' so they kill even more people for what?
<MrBob> I hate Uni. At least in film studies we get to talk about Fight Club.
<@X-Factor> Wouldnt you be breaking the first 2 rules?

Of course the attacks on London today are wrong and unjustified. On the other side of the coin though Bush did order attacks on Afghanistan that killed more civilians than were killed in the 9/11 attacks. And of course many more civilians were killed in Iraq.

good point bred. But yes, revenge is not the answer. I suppose it kind of echoes what Bush did after 9/11. Do we even know who did it yet?

The groups claiming it as a revenge attack use the excuse of revenge for their hate filled ideology. They would probably have done it anyway even without a war on Iraq by finding something else to blame (not that the war is a good thing but it is not the cause of all this).
