Stick it down on your forms - won't do any harm, but once your applying for a "real" job i.e. after uni, I don't know how much people care any more.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

My head teacher said that "I was a prefect" on a CV is synonymous to "I have a Higher grade C in <something>."

I didn't believe her. dry.gif
<MrBob> I hate Uni. At least in film studies we get to talk about Fight Club.
<@X-Factor> Wouldnt you be breaking the first 2 rules?

Being a prefect is not the equivalent to getting a higher. Outwith school and your first (part time) job it really means nothing, perhaps it may get a you some extra brownie points on your UCAS form if it is hard to choose between candidates.

It's certainly a help when it comes to writing things like personal statements as you can usually expand and try and promote yourself by saying it developed team building skills etc

yeah you may as well put it down, if theres someone with the exact same qualifications then it could differentiate between you. it also shows your responible can show leadership etc etc which is no bad thing, even if all you do do is give out a few leaflets and make tea at parents nights!

Definately put it in your personal statement for uni as its a real differentiator in terms of maturity.
If you put it on your CV you have to say something like you feel its made you more responsible and put it in additional info or the hobbies/interests bit.
Just saying "I'm also a prefect" seems I bit big headed and snobbish.

After university the whole prefects/captains idea wears a little thin.

My big brother's friend was the School Captain when they were at school, and I think he mentioned it a few times when going for jobs and I don't think they appeared to be bowled over with excitement by it! smile.gif

Yeh, I mean I was a prefect but I have way more practical and common sense than the captains, whose strengths were academical. Having practical skills is better for a job than academical skills.
