If your course consists of the units:

Database Systems
Information Organisation
Hypermedia/Expert Systems/Computer Application Software

It is H Information Systems.

I don't know what to pick.

I'm Definetely doing;
H Business Management
H Modern Studies
H Info Systems

Then I have to pick either:
AH Maths
or
AH Computing (this doesn't run at my school but they are willing to do it for me)

So i really don't know what to do because I find H MAths easy but I heard that for AH Maths there is no formula sheet so I would really appreciate some help from people who have done either or both.

Hi wikked-dfc - welcome to the forums. smile.gif

I've taken AH Maths this year and while it is more difficult than Higher, which is expected, I don't think it's that hard an Advanced Higher. The past papers seem pretty reasonable aswell. If you're finding Higher easy, go for it!

You're right; there's no formula sheet. But once you start revising and start doing past papers, they eventually come to you.

yes i personally haven't suffered from the lack of a forumula sheet however at higher we were told not to rely on it in the first place. As for AH computing that is a subject i would have wanted to have done wherever as i didn't take it thats all i can say on the subject

If i am not here i am somewhere else

I have taken AH Comp, and you'll be glad to know if you pick it next year you'll be the first to embark on the SQA's new course! smile.gif

Basically next year's course will consist of

Computing Project (re-named) which must be SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT, this year I am doing an investigative project but this is being scrapped.

You will study a unit on Software Development, which next year I think includes the SD Cycle plus all the old stuff from the Computing Programming unit at Higher IE : queues, stacks etc.

You will then study one optional unit :-
Computer Systems
AI
Data Communications

I am studying AI this year and I enjoy it, it's fairly cutting edge technology so it's fun!

This year however I have found, that you really need to be committed to working on your own, it's really a self-taught course which makes it difficult with only limited teacher input.
If you are considering a career/course in Computing/Soft Dvlp then I would recommend it.

i think being committed applies to all advanced highers even if like me you get taughth by a teacher 6 periods a week for both ones i am sitting. This is because there is a huge amount of content to learn and it tends to be quite complex and also there are project which will be done on your own which you really need to say focused on- and dont lose results either.

NB: There is no project in AH maths

If i am not here i am somewhere else

Next year:

fun fun fun, I want to do medicine too and between sixth year and uni I'm going to Paris for a few months to do some waitressing "pour améliorer mon français" <- damn that phrase! The other Frenchies will know what I'm on about  biggrin.gif

Why are you taking an Advanced Level?

There is no Advanced Higher course for Human Biology, so some schools offer the English A Level course as an alternative.

Wish mine did.

Yeah that's quite weird how they do Higher Human Biology but not AH Human Biology.

there is a lot of subjects where their is no AH for them. The only requirement the SQa have is to have a higher for a subject where there is a standard grade

In 5th:

H Psychology
H Maths
H Chemistry
H Biology
H English

Easier 6th year I'm hoping:

H Early Years
H Care (possibly)
H Technological Studies

* Maybe advanced English instead of Care
