How did you find this years exam? I thought it was pretty simple, and a pretty fair exam over all.

It was definitely the easiest out of the advanced higher chemistry papers so far.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

WOOOOOOOOOO! No more exams! biggrin.gif

I thought both parts of the paper were pretty good. Section 2 had a lot of 'name the...' questions, which was good, and the MC questions weren't too bad either.

People in my class seemed to think it was a lot harder though. I finished the multichoice in about 25 mins, but there were people round about me still doing multichoice when I had finished the paper.

i thought it was an easier paper compared to any past papers i had done. my teacher seemed to think it was a harder than last year. he went over what he got for the mc and most of our answers matched so i'm pretty confident

What did you guys get for Q 30 in the MC?

I wrote C, but not sure if it's right or not.

Also, what was 6 © ?

For 30 I got C, again, thanks to my aspirin investigation I knew that.

For question 6 on aspirin, the reason you had to do a back titration was that aspirin is insoluble, and the way you could determin its purity was to measure its melting point, and if the melting point was sharp and not depressed then the compound would be pure. You could also add FeCl3(aq) which would form a complex with any unreacted salicylic acid, or you could to TLC, but I'm sure they wanted the answer to be melting point.

yeah i got that aspirin one wrong, thats one of the ppas we did do tho, ah well lol

overall i thought that paper was ok, thought the mutli choice was harder than the written paper tho but maybe thats just me. out of the written questions i found the aspirin one the hardest, i was always rubbish at mole ratios and all that.

but WOOOOOOO no more exams!

I thought it was okayish... I didn't get a chance to study any of the organic stuff so it was all from memory. Units 1 and 2 were good though. On 13ci, was the molecular formula just the same as the empirical formula above? Or am I way off there.. :S

In the Higher you have to write on the actual question paper, there isn't an answer booklet like in AH.

I thought that the last question was quite straight forward, I'm just praying for a pass!
The race is long, and in the end it's only with yourself.

So was that benzoic acid you drew (ie a benzene ring with and acid group substituated)? That's what I drew anyway.

Also, for the last question about working out the empirical formula – did anyone else get exactly half the numbers you were supposed to get? If so why was that????
