For that question with the mask and why the CO2 would disappear, what did people put? I spoke some garbage about the CO2 dissolving in water vapour to produce carbonic acid which would neutralise the potassium hydroxide. Even though nothing was in solution I said that the water vapour would consense.

KOH was produced which absorbs CO2

Oh damn, I never noticed that!

Just Googled:
"Thus, Copper metal, Cu, will not react with dilute Sulphuric Acid, H2SO4, or with Hydrochloride Acid, HCl, but it reacts with Nitric Acid, HNO3"

- I said both hydrogen and carbon dioxide would be left at the end because:

metal + acid = salt + hydrogen gas
metal carbonate + acid = salt + water + carbon dioxide gas

and there was a metal and a metal carbonate reacting with the acid. (Think I'm remembering this right!) Standard grade stuff though really isn't it... always catches you out huh.gif

Does anyone have a copy of the paper then so we can try and get some unofficial answers up?

It was methanol in the hydrolysis? of poly (ethyl ethanoate) , but anyway, it was methanol. Pretty sure.

I don't think I wrote methanol as an answer to any of the questions. :/ Did you not get ethanol as an answer to any of them? For the question I'm thinking of there were 2 carbon atoms.

From reading what other people have been saying, I think I did about as well as I thought I had when I left the exam hall...I think that means a B grade...

You know how I think it was methanol?

Well I don't know if you recall the question, but methanol is CH3OH, the OH bit stuck to the to the original polymer chain on the side bits, and the CH3 bit reacted with whatever was stuck at the side bits of the chain. Thats why.

For the question asking to work out the mass of Vitamin C in a tablet, for the number of moles of iodine i think i did it wrong and did the concentration x volume of 0.05 instead of 0. 263 (cant remember exact value) and ended up getting an answer of 0.44g. Would that be one mark considering the method was right?

What was the correct answer to this question? I think I got an answer of a little under 1g. :/
