1.5 months late biggrin.gif

OK, the first email I sent got a reply from Mr Shield:

"Dear YIC

Half marks are used in the marking of Higher Chemistry, where the marking scheme allocates them. Some questions it is appropriate to award half marks others are marked on a 1 or 0 basis.

The derived grades process you refer to works on the basis of how good your presenting centre is at estimating grades and how many people achieve the grade estimated by the school.
If you are awarded a grade through the derived grades process it is included on your certificate. The certificate does not indicate how your grade was achieved.

Regards

Andy Shield
Qualifications Manager"

After this, I sent a reply on Tupac's request:

"Hello Mr Shield

Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated.
I would just like ask something else if that is okay: if you are
going to university in September (next term) and you have a
conditional offer to get certain grades, is priority given in the
appeals process to people that have fell short of their required
grade? i.e. are appeals done as soon as possible after the results
come out?

Yours Sincerley
The coolest guy on HSN"

I then got a reply to this one from Mr Shield:

"Dear YIC

Schools submit appeals in three batches. Firstly urgent appeals for Higher and Advanced Higher, which include people who need them for University entrance, then non-urgent H and AH appeals and finally S Grade and Intermediate appeals. That way we can ensure cases that may affect a candidate's entry to University are dealt with as quickly as possible. Hopefully you will get the grades you are looking for and not have to worry about your centre having to submit an appeal.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

Andy Shield
Qualifications Manager"

I hope the info was useful to you and I probably should have posted a while ago...

Brilliant.. just one thing:

If you are awarded a grade through the derived grades process it is included on your certificate. The certificate does not indicate how your grade was achieved.

Isn't that self contradictory? unsure.gif

It means the grade is awarded on your certificate that you receive on August 9th but the certificate doesn't say anything about the way in which you were awarded the grade.

yeah Bred is right.

It means that on your certificate, it will show you the new grade you got, but it won't show it any differently than the other grades you got first time (e.g. it won't say any other stuff like 'achieved through derived grades' )

Maybe if we wrote in chemical formulae we could shorten it.
