A nail is covered in water. Why does the rate at which the iron corrodes increase if Sodium sulphate is added to the water?

Anyone?
This is a multiple choice question btw. I get the answer but I don't see how adding sodium sulphate would increase the rate of corrosion as it would produce a neutral solution.

I do know that aggressive ions such as chloride and sulphate increase the rate of corrosion. Just don't know why.
