Some teachers can just put down low estimates though and then if an underestimated candidate messes up on exam day it's not so good.

yeah thats what might have happened to me. I think i might have got a C estimate but i got a B in the second prelim, the trouble being the estimate was sent in earlier.

So if you got a high B and you were estimated at an A, could you be bumped up if the teacher was fairly accurate about the others, even if the sqa didn't look at the evidence.

Estimates can be adjusted right up to a couple of weeks before the exam. I was able to upgrade an estimate for one of my pupils following a later assessment.

Yes or SQA can ask for evidence, ie it goes through the appeals process.

unsure.gif I got estimated at an A and got 82% on my big prelim, 72% on a unit 1 coarse assessment and 74% on a unit 3 coarse assessment unsure.gif
So if i get a B would my appeal have a high chance of success ?? unsure.gif

also if you get bumped up by the derived grade, are you bumped up before you get the certificate?
and if you were estimated at an A and got a C would you only be bumped up to a B since the derived grade can go no futher than one higher grade ?

Let's just say IF I were to get an A in my Computing exam, however I was predicted as a grade D (Due to me not doing very well in our prelim, 51/140). So, I wouldn't be able to get a Grade A, I would get a B, even a C?

If you get an A in the exam then that is what you get!

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

You get derived grades on your certificate in August.

Not sure if you would go up to a B, maybe that would have to be a normal appeal, someone else can clarify that.

Does this "automatic appeals" thing work for bands which is why you can't appeal bands in the long drawn-out way?
