I thought that there were 4 possible phenotypes but it only asked you to do a ratio for 3 of them. Or did it tell you that you couldn't get long wiry hair or somehting?

Anyway, there is a diagram of the acetyl coA thing in question 1 of the 2000 paper, and the answer to the question inour paper was definitely Coenzyme A.

There were 4 gametes from each parent AB, aB, Ab, ab, however the only phenotypes that you could have were wirey short hair, long smooth hair, short smooth hair, there was no wirey long hair, therefore the ratio was 12:3:1

You are right, the 2000 paper has a diagram showing Acetyl - CoA turning into Coenzyme A (CoA) and then back into Acetyl - CoA.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

I've never seen anything about that before (and i don't mean simply studied as i'm sure my class was never taught it).

It seems like such a simple question now sad.gif

Had you been taught it Werlop?

Which part the genetics or the respiration question?

For the genetics they gave you all the information you needed in the question.

For the respiration, I think it was mentioned, but only really breifly.

I don't think the teacher emphasised that Acetyl-CoA is actually an acetyl group, ie:

This is what acetyl Co-A looks like in reality (the acytl group is highlighted in blue):

Yeah, that's what i meant, oh well, only a mark lost...wish i'd looked at something about that beforehand.

I never really took it as any more than acetyl CoA, i never thought about the two being seperate things, and i've never seen it in it's structural form either.

Thanks for the link

Gutted. There goes my band 1. On that note do they ever publish the boundaries for bands?

And was the essay on pituitary hormones and IAA only for their effects on growth? (My band 2 could be going too...)

They publish them every year, no idea when though!

Eh, yes, i think it was just the effects on growth, but for pituitary hormones you'd have to describe the process, ie. GH produced by pituitary, stimulates increase in bones etc, then TSH stimulates thyroid gland to produce thyroxine which promotes groth by increasing metabolic rate/rate of reactions....

Oh and i went to my school AGAIN today, and they could only offer me Human Biology papers huh.gif

The answer CoA must have come from the question or problem solving because no way did we we ever talk about acetyl CoA in any detail of what it was and what it comprised of. Even the Torrance book (as far as I know) did not talk much about it other than it was 2C

For me, the exam was boring, but that was probably because I'd been hanging around at school all day waiting for it... I was totally worn out by the end but I'm hopeful that I did ok smile.gif
