I did Adv Higher French without having done Higher. It was due to my school ballsing up the timetable - Higher French was running in 2 columns, but typically our column got cut.

I really enjoyed the AH actually, I sat the exam yesterday. Predicted a B.

Thats true but they wouldn't let me go to college to do it, I'd have to have dropped accounts and I want to be an accountant so that would have been stupid!

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,

how the hell can u sit 2 levels in the one year!? isnt that pointless as the higherst level eg AH will cancel out the lower lever eg Higher!?! weird!

you probably wouldn't sit both levels - the exams are on at the same time for a start. you'd probably do the work at both levels, & therefore pass the component units for each of the courses, but only actually sit the advanced higher exam - i'm guessing!
when i'm dancin' with you,
tomorrow doesn't matter,
turn that music up,
till the windows start to shatter,
cos you're the only one who can get me on my feet,
& i can't even dance

I know someone (who is now doing physics at Cambridge) who did higher maths in 4th year, AH pure maths in 5th year and AH applied maths in 6th year.

View Post

I am in 5th year (or was) and I have a friend also in 5th year and he did higher maths instead of standard grade in 4th year and he has been doing advanced higher this year and will be doing Applied maths in 6th year on his own I think. This guy is a genius though I mean it. He is probably the highest performing student in our year and he always wins awards for subjects (he won the higher maths award in 4th year and is likely to win AH this year)

I know people like that. It annoys me. The ones I know learn everything from TV and reading notes yet my mum says TV should be scrapped, books make you more intelligent.

What a great school. I wish they had accelerated the bright ones in my school as I kind of think its made us de-motivated just staying with the others, we dont bother putting in the work.

I think that more schools should move intelligent children up classes. The main fault of the school system (in my opinion) is that it is geared toward the 'average' child. This means that the more intelligent children are left to sit and become bored, and they lose motivation, resulting in intelligent under-acheivers. When I was in primary school I was held back, and used to teach other children. As a result I was taken out of school and taught at home for five years - and a very good five years they were to! Being taught at home allowed me to return to school last year, aged 15, to sit five Highers, without having taken the standard grades first.

Sorry - that was a bit of a rant!
Oh weep for Adonais—he is dead!
Wake, melancholy Mother, wake and weep!
Yet wherefore? Quench within their burning bed
Thy fiery tears, and let thy loud heart keep,
Like his, a mute and uncomplaining sleep;

Hi Guys, just thought I'd add my comments. I was brought up in a military base somewhere of the coast of egypt and was taught my 12 standard grades at the age of 9 by tibetan munks (who were great teachers). I returned to the UK when I was 10 and sat 11 Highers in 3rd year before moving on to do 8 Advanced Highers. I emigrated to the US at 16 and studied spacology at Harvard. Im now an astronaut. Maybe one of these days one of you may be as intelligent as me. biggrin.gif

sorry I may have been slightly creative in my last post......... I'm not an astronaut.......I failed the astronaut test. My qualifacations weren't good enough. I'm now selling the Big Issue(at Mark's n Spencer's near George Square if anybody wants to purchase an issue) I think I may need a few more AH's. Any suggestions, I'm thinking of studying AH gardening techniques to improve my employment prospects.

i started my adv higher art half way through 5th year, and i started my higher art in 4th year.

Our school is doing this fast tracking thing now where most pupils spend only one year on their st grades and that gives them more time to do their highers. for example my sister (just started 3rd yr) is sitting her st grade english, Int 2 chemistry, st grade german and perhaps her st grade history this year and then she'll start some highers next year. i don't understand how it'll work out in the end though.

oi! did I not tell you before to stay off my turf?

Unlike this failed astronaut, I did 34advanced highers however I opted to sell the big issue where I felt more at home. No pun intended.
