just done the exam this morning...i thought the close reading was ok but had to miss the 1 marker to attempt the last question...

but the essays were another story! wat crap questions lol

yeh i done to kill a mocking bird for number 8 abt how the fate of a main character conveys a theme...is that ok? not sure i wrote about atticus getting the case for Tom and through this many forms of prejudice are revealed??? is that ok

Also my second essay was the one on how it would attract a teenage audience..the poem 1...number 13 .. i done a subalterns love song by john betjeman...its abt a young army officer who is in love and completly admires this girl....so i wrote abt how teenagers can know how he feels cos they first get into love during this period and can be very overwhelemed by the power of love....so can relate with the charcter etc etc.....is tht ok???

Q8- Ok never read it but if the theme is indeed prejudice then you are ok there.
Q13-Inspired- even I would not have thought of that- fantastic (as long as written properly)

desperation complelty...started to panic cos couldnt find any gd question for my fully prepared poem...it was a bak up i used lol...u made me feel bit better abt it thnks....jst hope it goes well

Reminds me of when we got a past paper / second prelim type thing... It was a question on heroic figures in poems, and we'd only studied Assisi and Visiting Hour, so I wrote about how the nurses were seen as heroic figures in VH and blagged my way into a 16/25, which means I got a B, which was not bad, considering.

I hope everyone does well. I found the close reading a bit challenging, the time is more of a constraint for me though - I rarely finish a close reading completely (only missed out 5 marks worth this time). For the essays I did choice 1 for drama, "The Glass Menagerie" and wrote about how Tom is trying to hide from his memories and the truth about his escape from the Wigfield household, but his only way of truly escaping is by confronting this truth, through the act of creating the play (as he is the narrator). Really contorted I know, but I felt like I did ok considering. For my poem I wrote about "Valentine" by Carol Ann Duffy and did the question about beautiful style. Then I got about half way through analysing the poem and realised while I was making her style sound beautiful, it wasn't really. So I went with how it was "beautifully simplistic", and how this helped convey the central concern that a representation of true love is free from commercialism and kitsche symbols, like her style which is beautiful without being overly descriptive or ornate. Yet another contorted line of arguement, but I'm still hoping.

If anyone has studied or knows these texts well and could give me some feedback on my choices I would be very grateful.

Thanks I'm just hoping the marker will appreciate the lengths I went to in order to make my texts fit haha. There was a question in the drama option about reality or something which would have probably fitted The Glass Menagerie better, but hindsight, lol.

Hey I did higher english exam today. Found close reading ok but completely panicked in my essays. They are not my strong point but i have a feeling that i didnt put in enough quotes. I did 5 in one and 6 in the other. Maybe not enough...

Can anyone tell me what they thought of my choice of question. I did

I did question 6 i think the one about the Narrative Technique since we had been told all year that if it came up it would be a gift.

Unfortunately i never really listened all that hard so I only had a little bit of knowledge about it but when I'd finished I'd written on 8 sides so hopefully its got enough good content to get a good mark!

The poem I did was visiting Hour and was the one about the Setting being important. I managed to write alot on this also and it all seemed to make sense so Im quite confident about the second essay but not sure bout the first one.

I'm worried my X Factor essay which I really engaged in and loved writing doesn't get down trodden as off topic instead of implicit engagement... oh well, I guess its natural to be worried lol.
