If you disable emoticons and submit a post, then go back to edit it, emoticons are re-enabled which annoyingly means every 'b' followed by a ')' gets turned into a smiley when the post is saved. You need to switch off emoticons each time.
I'm not sure if the state of the emoticons checkbox is saved with the message. If it is, then this is a bug. If it's not, then it's an annoyance. How about having emoticons off by default?

What if people want to use emoticons, I have to say I usually don't , but what if they do??
Half ideas, half quality, half a million pound law suit!

If you wanted to use them you would just click the 'enable emoticons' before posting your message.
I don't mind people using them, but the software isn't smart enough to tell the difference between a smiley and a part of an equation, which is annoying.

OK, it is possible to make the default state of the checkbox unchecked. I'm not sure about doing this though, since this might result in people forgetting to check it.
The emoticon choice is stored in the details for each message, but for some reason this is not used when editing the message (as far as I can tell). It would need some work to get it working properly. Since this is an old version, I'm sure this issue will have been resolved by now. The plan is to wait for a stable release of 2.0 before upgrading, since that one looks really good
In the meantime, you'll just have to take care when editing your posts. Sorry!

Would you be able to change the code for the Sunglasses Smilie only -
- this one.
I think it is this 1 which seems to cause some problems.
